Think the Vernam ship has sailed. Done zip at Grimsby and woulsnt want him back as location an issue.

Eisa, another player with the heart of a fly. Had goald in him at Scunny and now Grimsby but shite for us.

 

Improve the squad and try and get promoted? That would be my strategy. Not simply give up and rebuild yet again.

 

GA hasn't let us down yet. Yes Gent will identify new players, Sparks will do the negotiations on the contracts. I can't believe that a manager of Alexander's experience and integrity won't have the final say on the players Gent finds. They will have to fit the system(s) that GA and CL want to use.
There are already supporters moaning about GA's style of football but had we been taking our chances there probably wouldn't be an issue. The football we played under Phil Parkinson was quite attritional from what I remember.

 

I dont disagree. But he improves the squad/starting 11 based on what we know.

Yeah another player who we never got value for the wages paid. It may just be me but we have had far too many players with long term injuries over the last few years....

 

Another story on how the money in football has caught up with our level. Grimsbys 21 year old holding midfielder Kamil Conteh is set to join Bristol Rovers after having a medical earlier today.

Conteh only joined Grimsby in the summer from Middlesbrough, with Conteh playing 28 times in all competitions so far this season. After just half a season at the EFL level, Rovers have triggered his release clause which BristolLive have confirmed will break their record transfer fee, eclipsing their former record of £370k.

 

Yes likely right, that’s the downside , but a weapon if chasing the game in the last 20 mins.

He was their best player by a country mile at VP. I said so at the time. I think he was missed by Gent.?

 

He looked a talent. Gent will have worked with him before. Grimsby paid around £120k for him it seems with Boro having a 20% sell on fee. All that's been confirmed is it will break Bristols record fee but isn't above £500K. Even so, nice little earner for Grimsby. The fans have been told that this is the model, buying young lads who can't yet break into their first teams to sell on down the line.

Their fans arent happy as they think £500k isn't enough from their forum and they've set the clause fee too low. A lot thinking they could have had a lot more with the money now in the CH & L1...... And some of our fans thought £300k for Young was acceptable

 

We're still waiting to hear @NorthernMonkey's opinion on whether Young is a better signing than Young and could he take Young's place in the starting 11.

 

From me I'm afraid. A tongue in cheek ridiculous throw out (as well as Vernam) just to the add to the growing hot wind on here, as I was bored. All started by somebody else on here suggesting another previous player returning this window, so I'm unwilling to take all the blame.

 

Vernam had surgery very early in the season to fix a long term muscle injury which he's had which is why he's not played a lot. He returned on New Years day then started last week so I'd imagine he'll be getting quite a few starts between now and the end of the season.
