And how many senior appearances had Lewis made before we signed him?
I recall this board lighting up with complaints we'd signed an unknown, untested keeper who was clearly crap because he hadn't broken into the first team before we signed him.

    Let's face it.
He's here cos Colin Doyle worked with him before and he's available, not cos we've watched him for months and see him as someone we can use to help us climb the leagues

Lewis was a young premier league keeper who needed a club to show he could flourish.
Walker is the total opposite in the same Category as Matt Derbyshire

Oh right. Hasn't played so must be total shite?
I refer you to Harry Lewis's appearances before we signed him.

It really is. The boo boys would be on here moaning just the same had it been reported that we rejected a £175k offer for Lewis.

There are only 48 first choice goalkeepers in Leagues 1 and 2. Quality wise those in Pl and Champ are out of reach. Plenty of decent GKs are thus backup, playing few games.

I would prefer it if we signed a respected NL keeper on the up, but c’est la vie, we needed to act fast and in he’s come.

It isn’t a signing from a long term planning stand point but clearly Doyle - who ‘gets it’ at City - thinks he’s good enough, so willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Don't really understand the fuss on this. Lewis was a good shot stopper, but always dodgy on crosses, which is basic at this level. Also remember how poor Pickford was for his first games. Oracle who posts on here turned to his mate and said he'll never make a decent keeper!

One ofbthe best signings we ever made was here because he was in the last chance saloon and effectively unemployable. George Mulhall took a gamble, it worked.

Can we drop all the cynicism and give Alexander a chance to rebuild us over a decent period of time ?

It must be really hard to run a football club with 14,000 would be owners/ ceos/ managers all wanting there two pennorth.

And on that note, I'm taking a break from here because this nothing is ever good enough attitude is ruining my football life.

I make it that he's made 76 appearances in the last 7 years. You can use stats to say whatever you want, what them stats don't say is that for 3 of them seasons he was number 2 at a Championship club. If you change the word years to seasons and say 7 seasons then he's on 123 appearances in the last 7 seasons.

That’s not how I read it.

One fans opinion on being worried about crosses, hardly says “The Charlton fans think he is shite”.

As we seem to be conceding a few penalties recently I thought I'd look at his penalty stats and they look decent, in his career he's faced 55 penalties and saved 13 of them so looking at just over 1 in 4 penalties saved. Compare that with Lewis and he's saved only 2 of the 12 professional penalties he's faced.

I’m not sure a keeper with going on for 400 appearances is “desperation”. He seems like a good keeper and for us it’s good that he happened to be available. Rather him than a temporary loan of an unproven 19 year old.

Seems a good keeper? I wish the lad nothing but good luck. If the money made from Lewis goes towards better quality of player elsewhere then all's good. If......

Is it just me or does he look like Lewis’s older brother?

I'd have absolutely rejected it and I'm not even that bothered about him going.

£175k will just be swallowed up by the fictional 'deficit' so it seems a pointless change at this point in the season given who we've brought in as a replacement.
