Sounds about right for a mid table league 2 side. There are better options out there but we have gone for someone Doyle played with a few years ago.
It concerns me he has struggled to find a club and failed to be playing regularly when he was roughly in his prime.
Doesn’t sound like he’s terrible but its 100% not like for like imo. Hope the lad does well but we are clearly skint.

 

Also, on the plus side, he's ex-Colchester, who we play on Saturday, so bound to score

 

As long as he can kick the ball very far then he'll be OK in our present tactical set up.

I keep telling folk but some seem blind to it, all about balancing the books. No blame from me toward Sparks, he has a remit and he's doing well in that respect. Would have liked to seen us target a young up and coming keeper, even a loan from a higher division. The new signing just smacks of desperation.

 

6,6 is great for crosses, but I hope he’s got good relexes and can get down well. He should have a look at the videos, highlighting how many times the oppo strikers just nip in front of our defenders and guide the ball in with foot or head from about 6 yards.

Would like to see the keeper in action before making any comment on how good he is.

Lewis will be back in this division next season but on better wages so a no brainier for him to move.

I reckon this has gone really well for GA. He’s only seen Harry play poorly and because of poor recruitment he’s been unable to bench him. He had to have been looking to upgrade.
Walker may be his number 1 next season or he might prove to be back up to a main keeper.

 

The thing is .historically. we are where we belong!

 

Goalkeepers are finding it harder and harder to get clubs if they won't be a number 1 as more and more clubs are going for goalkeepers who don't have many appearances as they can get in an emergency loan. You say there are better options out there but do you know they are available and willing to join? There will be no more than 100 goalkeepers who are playing regularly each season, in his 1st season at Reading he was back up behind Emiliano Martinez for the 2nd half of the season then Rafael Cabral who played in Serie A last season so I wouldn't read a lot into him starting for them 3 seasons. Harry Lewis only had 1 season playing before us whereas Walker had made over 100 appearances by the age of 24.
David De Gea is still without a club but if we signed him I doubt many fans would be complaining about him not having a club.

Don’t you start! The other half keeps saying we have always been an unambitious club and we always will be. Apart from GR and he was reckless or ambitious which ever side of the fence you sit.

 

He left in 2018 and since then played about 50 games in 5 seasons. I know lewis didn't have any game time when he joined us but he was on the young side and something not great when at the age of 32 not played many games in 5 or 6 seasons.

 

This is what it is, a good experienced goalkeeper signing for this season and next.

He has played plenty of games for a few clubs. Recently Charlton. Who says no one else wanted him?

 

I won’t judge him until I see him in action. He no doubt will be doing his best.
