I don't know for certain, yes that opinion is based in the names that have been banded about on social media and on the bookies lists! If indeed we pull a name out of the bag that none of us thought/knew about who fits what we are trying to achieve perfectly then happy days! None of us saw Hughes coming in, yet that turned out to be a move based on our CEO being in awe of the name and reputation I would suggest. Of the list of those who are clearly available, none jump out for me

I totally agree. But remember a lot of fans moaned when we got, more impressive results, at Stockport and Mansfield - who are expected to be Top 9.

I've read the article and I don't buy it for a minute. It's just convenient filling to explain why they thought the Cowley's couldn't take the club forward.

Hoyle was still losing a fortune.

It's another debate, as to whether surviving two seasons in The Premiership, is the worst case. One season and usually you've not gone all out and spent cash on 'marquee' players. Three seasons and you're getting back the cash you've paid for during the expensive second season.

Town suffered the same fate we did with two seasons in The Premiership. Lots of disinterested highly paid players, that no-one wanted (look what Leeds did to get their's out of the club - more or less took a loss on them).

Hoyle v Cowleys was always going to be a relationship that lasted two minutes. A bit like when he had Grayson.

Town fans I know, said without them they would have gone down.

Yes it won’t be an easy decision. But McDonald has spent a lot of his career higher up the pyramid and spells at the likes of Wolves, Burnley and Fulham (two spells in PL and a lot of time in the Championship) should have guaranteed he’s set for life financially?

He must have been earning five figure wages in his pomp, easily, so one more year on a few grand a week (can’t see him being on £4k pw personally….maybe only Smallwood and Cook would be on that?) at City might not be the be all and end all.

The way he should view it is that if he delivers the goods here - with good resources and backing at his disposal, his enhanced reputation will open doors at bigger clubs higher up the pyramid. He then earn more then in the long run than if he extends his playing career now, picking up his backup mifdfielder wage here (no way will he be on what the captain is on etc) for another year and a bit or whatever.

Think he might view it as having plenty of his life left to go into management. If his short management stint here continues in the same vein, it will look good on his CV.

It misses the point that he definitely won't lose out on the money he's getting til the end of this contract no matter what happens - the wage will be rolled into the new contract and if he gets sacked it will be paid up (and we will presumably lose him as a player as well despite having paid his contract in full)

What you mean is, it doesn't suit your story so you're going to ignore the facts.

Exactly. He's already missed out 2 years of his playing career due to illness, and will want to play as much as he can for as long as he can until that is no longer a viable option for him. Every former player that goes into management almost without exception, will always say that nothing beats being out on the pitch but being on the touchline is the next best thing, I just don't think KM is quite ready for the next best thing just yet when he still has a chance to do the best thing.

    Exactly.
We battered Swindon and were unlucky not to score 5.
Just cos Austin fluffed doesn't mean we didn't deserve it.

Flynn was just pissed off, because his team ran out of ideas after 30 minutes. He's a manager who rarely gives the opposition any credit.

We had the better chances than they did. It was the easiest last 30 minutes, since we played Sutton at home and easily in the top 5 'most comfortable seeing out of a match' since we've been back in L2 (although that's not saying a lot :joy:)

I agree. I don't see money been the issue for him. He must have been earning, what £1m per annum for at least 5 years and I'd be surprised if he hasn't averaged half of that other 10.

Some people don't look at the money.

He might genuinely want to carry on playing though. Although, given his health issues - I can't see that been possible for much longer.

    My opinion, not my story.

A story is the link posted earlier, it may be factual and it may not. It depends how truthful the club wanted to be with the journalist.

What I did notice though is that there's absolutely no comment from the Cowleys.

Another factor which could influence Kevin McDonald, is the potential ‘sale’ of the club! The following thread was started by @Norman Corner@Norman Corner who after a hiatus returned to Bantam Talk and was adamant that a sale was likely https://bantamtalk.com/index.php?threads/club-for-sale-etc.7576/page-3#post-802758
Given what often happens when a club is bought, that the new owners have a plan to install their own manager, who they have identified previously (Birmingham City being a recent example), then the fragility of the managers post, must be an issue.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Sparks could put together a bespoke contract that compensates for KM. giving up his playing career. Nothing is set in stone. Let’s not over complicate the situation. If the Board want him they just need to do the right thing.
