One of the reasons I stopped watching Premiership football a few years ago.

In fact don't tend to watch much football on TV now in general.

I still love watching City and England in competitive games, purely on the basis that those are the teams I passionately support.

Much prefer to watch Cricket on TV now

Our income from gate receipts are much lower than an equivalent CC club with equal crowd sizes because we have cheap seasons . Surely you factored that in …….?

Oddly Idle I’m the opposite , utterly hate what cricket has become. And it’s all for TV . Just like SKY commercialised RL.
    I’m somewhat of a traditionalist I know .

Indeed. That was my big gripe with Hughes. That style of football, reminiscent of a chessboard, can be very successful when adopted by the best teams with the most talented players. And it's becoming more widely used. It's permeated into the Championship as well. Hughes tried to adopt it here at VP with less talented and flexible players who weren't comfortable with the formations and tactics. As we witnessed, they struggled to implement it successfully. Imo it's not a type of football suited to the lower leagues. Unfortunately Hughes never got to grips with that concept.

And it's bloody boring! Had we been able to adopt it successfully to get us out of this damned league, I may have been more receptive to it. We however finished up with the worst of both worlds - little excitement with very little success!

I watched MOTD on Saturday night. The Arsenal V Manchester City match. It showed efforts by Arsenal to play it out and Manchester City playing the very fast press they forced Arsenal into errors. Having said that Arsenal went on to win the match.

He still thinks he can offer something on the pitch and fair play to him. Spent so long out the game, it's only right he gets to try and finish his career his way. I reckon this is probably his last season and he goes to coaching. Exeter offered him a player-coach contract in the summer but he wanted to just play for now. Wonder if the last few months of having issues with fitness and he had that period of illness from his tablets, he might be happy to find his feet as a player-coach for the rest of the season?

Heard from 2 or 3 different people now that the job is Leam Richardsons after his interview last week, but City are looking into all candidates before committing. I'd be in touch with John Eustace already if I were Sparks and just see if he is wanting a quick comeback. Birmingham were odds on favourites to go down last year with the squad they had and the disaster behind the scenes with the old owners and managed to get them to survive and had their highest points tally in years.

I think he wouldn't be interested as he'd probably walk into a lower champ-top end L1 role in the near future once the sackings kick on properly which is usually any time now.

Behave, most of them were recruited as 4 th division players, it helps without doubt but do stop blaming large attendances for our poor home form/performances.
And Mark Hughes has said his recruitment was also based on strong minded footballers who were up for playing in a stadium that had 17/18,000 fans cherring them on.

It's Paul Cook, the guy who Richardson was assistant to, who we should be giving serious consideration to if he was interested..
    Currently contracted to Chesterfield.

I like the guy one of the few managrs who say if like it is, after our win at Wigan under Stuart he did not come out with excuses he said we were the first team that season to go to Wigan and try to win the game, giving praise to both Stuart and Robinsons goal.

Paul Cook (unless something daft happens) if going to get a promotion on his CV and a trophy in the cabinet if he stays at Chesterfield as they look like a top side this year and should come up and probably challenge again with their money in the bank already then add to that the 7 figures they got from Peterborough in the summer to prop the books up.

It's a task for us to build something out the squad assembled to mount a promotion charge this season, likelyhood is we are in Chesterfields division this time next season, with them having more funds available and a years free hit on the L2 fair play rules. Cook would be daft to leave his current gig for any in this division, unless they are paying him ridiculous money.

My main passion is Test match cricket, which to me is still my favourite form of cricket by a mile

Jeeez and you complained about the boring Hughes football.
Can’t think of anything worse than test match cricket. It’s soooooo slow.

    Chesterfield aren't Bradford City.
He'd have a much more impressive CV taking Bradford to the Championship than a small club with a wonky spire to L1 before they run out of steam. The staggering fanbase interest in City at the moment suggests to me we'd command nearing 20k crowds with a promotion under our belts.
Cook climbed the managerial ladder as far as Ipswich, before slipping back out of the league.
Seasons pass quickly, Sticking with Chesterfield could be seen as short-sightedness, it won't be long before their pockets are empty again.

Anyway, you're probably right in your assessment, and I was making a suggestion, I certainly won't be disconcerted whether he came or not.

I love it and it is not slow and certainly not how England play it these days.

Dont get me wrong, i wouldn't say no at all, just cant see him walking away from the cards he has been dealt at this stage.

Potential is always here on the surface, but it's rare for managers to see out potential these days. Lower league management is a very short sighted business unfortunately. Cant see the self sustainability model working well enough to get us to the Champ, hope I'm wrong but it's struggling to get us out the 4th tier, let alone be enough to challenge in L1.
