Boro were a lesson in intelligent movement into space last week. Our three stand still. Don’t think about offering angles. Consequently we are painfully slow and often return the ball where it came from as a safety first tactic. It’s abysmal to watch. Not Adamzzzz ball bad but nowhere near what is required. If we could get Warnock I would be rather pleased. Hughes started this trajectory last season with negative changes culminating in the play off second leg. I didn’t think it would unravel this quick but it appears to have. Times up for hughes for me.

We shouldn't be looking for the root cause of our inconsistency. We need to find the root cause of our inability to deliver the results!

I believe we have a decent Div 2 squad who should produce better performances and deliver better results than we've experienced to date. When we played Boro, Hughes saw a team (not us!} playing how he'd like to play and that's how Hughes sets up his own team. Unfortunately, the squad we have assembled doesn't have the mix of skills and quality which are needed to play a PL/Championship type of football and yet Hughes continues with that approach. For some reason Hughes hasn't grasped that football as played in the lower leagues with less talented players is hugely less effective than that demo'd in the higher leagues. Hughes still has to grasp how footie needs to be played successfully in the lower leagues.

Somebody in the club with some credible football nous needs to explain that to MH. Regrettably we don't have that person and unless Hughes has some kind of Road to Damascus moment and changes his mindset in a radical way, we will continue to have more days like today.

I have watched City for almost 60 years and have seen all types of managers fail, rookies, internationals, makes no difference. However, the ones that brought about real change were players with character that came as player Manager in their first managerial role i.e. Roy McFarlane and Trevor Cherry.
I think that's the sort of person we need as player/manager with an experienced former manager to help him out.
James Milner would be perfect for the role though whether he would drop down to City's level is doubtful.....but if you don't ask, you don't get!!!

The clubs inability to get it right on the pitch is all the more galling in that and many are about to disagree here m, the club appear to have made positive strides off the pitch in the commercial department creating more income than ever through those means. To me the buck stops with hughes. The recruitment and coaching should be getting better results from the resources he has.

This sums up our predicament. It's why Steve Evans has been so successful at this level. Parky has based his managerial success around it. You have to play to your strengths, Hughes wants us to be a team that plays championship style football yet we have not one player anywhere near that level. It showed with MacDonald today, he was poor but he had been used to playing in team with movement and pass and go. We have players who do well to stand still never mind move off the ball..

No they don’t . He’s been given a decent budget by the owner . Hughes and Gent did the spending and recruitment. I don’t buy anything else.

Your last sentence is spot on midfield and defenders get blamed for their distribution but today there as zero movement in front of them.

Today was quite predictable once the team was announced. He could have changed it at halftime very simply. Pattison for Gilliead and Wilson for the hopeless Oduor. Then we could have had a go. But, of course, he didn't because he can't see what's actually happening on the pitch. Our lack of effectivenes in attack just encourages teams to come at us, as Walsall did. Instead we have two clueless changes of formation in the second half. He's absolutely hopeless. If anyone, supporters or management, thinks we shouldn't get rid of him tonight then there really is no hope for us in the immediate future.

Just back, after two very slow journeys on the M6/M62 today.

    Very little to say except:
    • The only City player who should be happy with his performance today was Halliday; and
    • Too many poor performances from Hughes's teams for me. Time for a change.

It’s not the first time this has been mentioned, I just don’t know what it could be. Hughes has been backed to the hilt and we are no further forward than when he came. Surely expectant big crowds aren’t putting the mockers on us, or are they?!

Is this a wind up, the reason I ask is with regards these two comments "easy to blame the manager" then "One thing might be to give space to Lewis at corners - our own players block him from going for catches. The manager is responsible with regards what happens on the pitch and who he selects to play, they practise all week at training I would hope so why shouldn't it be his reasonability when its goes wrong, he'd happily take the accolades when things go well. With regards the goal keeping situation again Hughes makes the calls how we defend set pieces, I posted before I'm disappointed with the way we go about marking set pieces (zonal marking) if you have your players take reasonability by them marking the opposition players this can be sorted when the team sheets are made available, at least with man marking its your reasonability to stop your man scoring where as now if the opposition score they all look at each other as if to say why didn't you pick him up.
