I don't care what anyone says. Evans is a proven success at his level, and usually on a modest budget. If he had half the budget that Bowyer, Adams, Hughes etc had, we'd be in the Championship

People need to put this hatred of Evans to one side, it is nauseating to see the likes of Crawley/Rotherham/Stevenage enjoy promotions while we are fed shit season after season

I still don't think hes a good manager, give him a poor squad on a low budget see what he does then. if Hughes did what Evans did you'd be calling for his head.


As well hes a nasty bloke so not sure what there is to like, even removing the fact he is an accused sex offender.

if its him or Wellens its Wellens every day of the week. Wellens won the league with a poorer squad. arguably he only won it last season because Evans tripped over his own trousers.

We got a manager in who performed really well on a low budget we got him in he was crap. why do you think Evans would get us promoted? what skills do you think he has that would enable us to go up?

We had a really good squad with McCall and he got us to a play off final - Do you think McCall is a bad manager?

Regardless of the alleged moral compass of Steve Evans, no one can deny he is a successful lower league manager. It's not even up for debate, the facts speak for themselves. It matters little the ins and outs of his budget, the same goes for Derek Adams. We might not like either of the characters of the two men, I suspect non of us know them on personal level but promotions are a measure of success wether one likes it or not.

 

I just can't get my head around the thinking of Mark Hughes did well and Steve Evans failed.

Steve Evans is now in a division higher, with a smaller team and probably had a smaller budget.

It just doesn't make any sense unless I'm lost in some sort of parallel universe.

 

I'm led to believe he had a good budget, MacAnthony mentioned it on his podcast, but as he also mentioned Evans is a very good manager. I'm not bothered about his character, I know nothing of his personal life, I just look at the facts. A promotion once, heck you might get lucky. But he's had multiple. That ain't luck, that's knowing your job.

 

There's no doubt he's a very good manager, but there's many who would boycott the club if he was appointed, myself included. Ultimately with the funds Stevenage had, Evans should have won the league, so he failed.

 

So be it, I'd prefer 11,000 crowds in L1.

 

Not gonna happen with Evans. He needs a budget, a large one.

 

I guess Buzz Aldrin was also a failure for only being the second man on the moon.

Absolute rubbish. Stevenage more than likely didn't even have a top 7 budget. Hughes had a very good budget so he failed.

Yeah right. Absolutely no way in a million years that Stevenage had a bigger budget than us.

If they did, it would have had them liquidated before Christmas.

I’m pretty sure Stevenage were favourites for relegation out of the football league at the start of last season, as they only just survived the season before, finishing 2 places above the drop zone. He galvanised them, made some reasonable signings, and they romped to promotion finishing 6 points above the play offs and 9 points above us, despite us doing the double over them.

Your earlier statement of him failing at Stevenage is both outrageous and, quite frankly, totally deluded

 

Are you saying the same about Gillingham this season? Exactly same position as Stevenage last season. Somehow I don't think Gillingham will be down there.

Evans DID fail. He had the largest budget in the division, just as Gillingham do this.
