Pre-Season Friendlies 23/24

Success on the pitch leads to success off the pitch. If we are top 3 this season, we will have decent crowds and if we get promoted we will have good ST sales next season and good crowds again. I doubt people will be banging on about the kids who played against BPA come May if we’re promoted.

 

Just tried to buy tickets for Hull game online and you have to select seats which seems pretty strange when the club says it unallocated seating. Also no option to change the type of ticket to OAP or junior tickets. Misleading agin by the club.

 

Did you go to the game ? If not, why not?

The criticism for the BPA selection is valid.

Just poor from the club.

A little communication within and without the club would have done wonders.

How much did Bolton pay us for that friendly, and why so urgent?

Boro and Hull don't really interest me, so my next game will be first home game of the season.

 

I have been to many pre season friendlies there and never expected a full side out. It’s a good opportunity to see the younger players and by all accounts it was a close game.

 

You’re missing the point though. The club misled fans into thinking this would be a first team lineup.
They sold tickets in advance and then moved the goalposts an hour before kickoff.
I had no desire to watch the juniors and if it had been advertised as such, I wouldn’t have attended.

I remember Chapman scoring last season, and that was a full strength team.

How was your trip to Skipton?

 

Loved it thanks Ade. We hadn’t been back for over 35 years . Wife wanted to find the location of the hospital where she was born….10 mins walk on the canal from the hotel! Great to get a “ cake” from the Skipton Chip shop . Can’t get them down here!
Plenty of circular drives round the dales . Hawes , Settle. A train up the Settle line to Carlisle and back…Wow stunning!
Cliff Castle museum at your place, Haworth etc.
Crowning glory ..,we came back with 40 pork pies from Stanforths, now safely in the freezer. ( Some for son and daughter! )
Fortunately we managed to dodge the showers all week!

We do miss the place. Quite a few “ looks” in estate agents windows too!

I think that ship may have sailed, but we would move tomorrow, if it wasn’t for the family

Great part of the world going up for a few days next week a bit further north to near aysgarth falls

 

Yes passed the top of the road to the falls as we called into West Burton , a place I spent a lot of my childhood. Wonderful area!

They didn't move the goalposts 1 hour before kick off, everyone knew more than 24 hours before kick off and it was reported in the T&A as well as being mentioned by Jamie Raynor. It was always a risk it would be a weakened side when it was announced as the middle of preseason rather than the start like normal. It was far more beneficial for the likes of andy Cook to play against Bolton than BPA. Going forward if it isn't an early game in preseason I would expect it to be a u19s team that plays.

Didn’t make Park Avenue this year as was working - thankfully.

Will go to Hull today just to get away from the wife and kids as the kids aren’t interested in friendlies.

Was ready for the season to end last year but the slate is wiped clean again for me now and we go again. Ready for the new season. Fingers crossed we’re a bit more ambitious in our approach.

 

I have family in Colchester and every chance they get they try and stockpile cakes from the chipshop

 

We stockpile the pies and freeze them, never thought to do the same with the “ cakes” .

We used to get all our Xmas meat , stand pies etc from Stanforths sent down by courier when we lived in Stortford. Sadly they stopped doing service last year , so do I drive up and back….nearly 400 miles? Mmmmmmmm?
