Not sure there is any truth in the Hunt rumour. I think the reason it’s quiet at the moment is we are waiting for loans to become available

 

Nixon doesn't have the best track record either to be honest. Probably around the time we need to be operating at 1 out 1 in for registration reasons. You're allowed 22 players over the age of 21, excluding goalkeepers to be registered for the league, or at least that has been the rules for last few seasons. For anyone wondering, the U21 players for Season 2023/24 will have been born on or after 1 January 2002. So Jake Young this year will need to count as a registered player for his club, as he turns 22 before Jan 1st.

Halliday, Ridehalgh, Platt, Smallwood, Osadebe, Cook, Walker, Gilliead, Odusina, East, Hendrie, Oliver, Chapman, Young, Derbyshire, Kelly, Stubbs, McDonald, Odour, Pattison, Smith & Taylor = 22 players.

Guessing we will want to move on a few of the squad before bringing any more in? Young and Hendrie being 2 that immediately jump off the page as likely to leave.

 

Instead of no-one. He currently has the shirt. We all know Gilliead either has some incriminating photos of Hughes or is his love child.

 

He could turn out to be a diamond - and I'll be very pleased if he does - but I reckon Brad Halliday has the shirt at present and he'll do well to wrestle that away from him unless MH plans a significant change, such as attacking wing backs, in the formation.

I think you have missed Harry Lewis, so at least one will have to be moved on.

We have a space on the bench (the seventh sub) for a home grown player. I think those who qualify are Luke Hendrie, Finn Cousin-Dawson, Bobby Pointon, Dylan Youmbi, Harvey Rowe and Heath Richardson. All except Hendrie are under 21 and so do not count towards the 22 squad size.

 

GK’s don’t count towards the 22 squad size.

 

Keepers are excluded from registration, so no need to add Lewis.

Also, the home grown player in your matchday 18 thing was scrapped a season or two back for the EFL.

Think there is something in this stand corrected but I don’t remember to much that Nixon has got wrong surrounding us. I also think Hunt sounds the sort of player Hughes likes experienced with quality
At higher levels. Add to that he’s local. I think Hendire will be off and Hunt will come in.

 

Is he decent though? Had to look him up and found his only games have been for Braintree and Gateshead.

 

Nixon has the machine gun approach…Fire a thousand shots and one may hit…hey he’s a genius “ in the know”.

He’s been NO DIFFERENT for years!

 

Doesn’t mean anything really BB. He’s been brought in to improve. Ex Watford, 6 games for Boro reserves, 6 months loan in Non League . Bit like our Oggie……. without any league experience. Bench warmer perhaps?

Time will tell - I don’t know enough about who they’ve signed so no predictions from me!
In terms of where we’re at, Pattison aside, I’m still concerned about lack of energy in our midfield areas although I might well be proven wrong

 

Weird league this year. There's genuinely about 10 teams who have a very good shout of finishing anywhere from 1st-7th..... theres also some that look like they are going to have a nightmare of a season. Think Forest Green are moving into that nightmare slot. Everyone good player they had has gone from the promotion team, entire recruitment system was poached by Portsmouth and now Duncan Ferguson, after running the pre season planning meeting yesterday has left his role as manager.

Them and Crawley are looking very shakey to me.

 

That may be the case but this lad wont have cost much , if anything whatsoever.

 

Keyendrah Simmonds is being linked to us, Cambridge and Shrewsbury by Pete O’Rourke.

Winger released by Birmingham and had what looks like an uneventful loan at Grimsby in the first half of last season.

 

Far better success rate than Nixon does Pete. Very unknown is Simmonds though, barely a kick at mens level for Birmingham and had just the 1 league start on his Grimsby loan.... I know he was fairly decent on football manager at the lower levels a few years back?

Also confirmed that Nick Powell is on trial at Stockport after seemingly rejecting Wrexhams offer.
