Bonkers recruitment since last summer

 

Funnily enough its got us 7th 6 points from 3rd with a game in hand! So must be doing something right..

Not sure what is right but it’s certainly going that way!

 

Hughes and the recruitment team will be judged on how it goes, so I’m happy for them to do their jobs. When people on here have been asked to provide an answer to replace a manager/player/owner it is often met with it’s not my job to find one. That’s right it’s Gent and Hughes so let them have a fair crack at the whip and judge accordingly.

 

Not so sure.

Quantity over quality in most areas for me.

Top heavy with wingers and forwards, yet we still struggle to score.

I hope MH strengthens central midfield, we are shockingly weak in that area in my opinion.

Scattergun approach has been the buzz word for it on here and elsewhere and I agree.

The one good thing is that the league is so poor, we still find ourselves in the mix, but we must improve the shocking home record of 5 wins in 13 in the second half of season

 

The head of recruitment won’t pick who we buy and sell / loan in or out.
Their job is to identify players or negotiate deals and make deals happen.
All these decisions are Hughes’.
He picks the team on a match day, he determines the tactics and coaches the players.
Gent isn’t responsible for telling the players to fanny around at the back, Gent isn’t responsible for stubbornly continuing to play the same two in the middle week in week out or playing one up top at home (even when chasing a game).
I’ve no real issues with the recruitment, it’s the actions of the football management team that I’m increasingly beginning to question, not the recruitment manager.

 

Mate over that way reckons Cook's gone/going to Wrexham.

 

I think he’s been a great signing and can kick on from here.

 

If that’s right, then there had better be a shitload of brass involved. The moneybags at Wrexham can afford it and we need it to bring in a midfield boss. Then it’s fingers crossed someone else can figure out how to hit the back of the net.

 

He said the offer's around 70k, ball in city's court.

I am but the messenger. No idea how realistic it is.

 

Clearly they have taken a look at the side and decided it wasn't good enough to be certain of promotion. As the title of this thread they have decided to Twist. As with all decisions there is risk associated with it. I along with all other City fans haven't a clue whether the changes are going to be successful or not. All we can do is keep faith and hope that the rollercoaster get us to journey end. City supporters aren't the best for being calm amidst uncertainty and change.

As far as Cook is concerned I dont think keeping him is the element that would guarantee promotion. Clearly if we dont get promotion he wont be here next, and if we do get promoted he is not a L1 player. So if we get an offer that allows us to get the people we need to drive us forward - take it.

 

Cook wont be here next season and he isnt good enough for L1. Has spent his entire career in the basement so at 32 he aint getting any better.

If he is sold and we get some money in the coffers for a decent replacement then so be it. I think his wage is around 3k a week so he is one of the highest earners.

Platt is OK but we could do with better. An old head next to Crichlow would improve us defensively.

 

Agreed. He is a solid squad member, nothing more.

 

I don't think any midfielder will be walking through the doors unfortunately.

 

For someone with no contract and therfore zero value in 5 months, who it appears that he’s now second choice? Some may say that’s a good deal, others may say he may eventually fit into the way we want to play and score in a team heading for a promotion play off place.

The dilemma!

No dilemma for me. To get rid of the second highest goal scorer in the league at this stage of the season would be utter madness.

 

You're right. But he's not going to play him. So from Hughes point of view he is surplus to requirements.


(maybe this is because he suddenly thinks Chapman, Walker, Gilliead, Smallwood are going to start contributing to goals/assists. I see little evidence of that but hey ho)
