He’s been recruited for the future not the present imho?

I think that's a tad unfair. He is a young highly rated L2 CB, who signs for us and then unfortunately gets injured.

We've seen lots of times that if you miss part of pre-season and the early part - it can take until the New Year to get your form back. Garry Thompson was a cracking example - it was only around now that he got going for us 10 years ago.

But I could see sense it what's been suggested - he goes back out on loan and gets his confidence back

I think Hughes will want to keep Songo'o. He covers CB / midfield and has been very good at coming on an helping the team to 'finish' matches in a positive way

I wonder if he's considering using Critchlow as defensive midfielder? He could easily do that role at this level.

We basically play with four front minded players. In that system the two central midfielders must be good at defending.

We will wait to see how this lad does but it’s good to see the club scouting system working and us being proactive in advance if the window

It feels like a long time since we've been bringing on Songo'o to help us "finish" matches.

England are likely to end up top scorers. So not quite getting what you mean.

You must be finding the entire world cup "boring", as every team plays in a cautious 'build from the back' style.

I'm not certain that it's the correct formula for the Top 3 in L2, but one thing I am certain off - the footie is the best I've seen in this league, since 2012/13 and the not so glorious failure of 2008/9.

Note, neither of them yielded a place higher than where we currently are.

I do often wonder, what fans want. Pragmatic Gary Bowyer? No. Winning is all the matters Derek Adams? No. Proven success that Steve Evans is? No.

    You tell me!!

Fair comment, but not many teams had the chance to put 6 past Iran.. !!

No issue with this type of signing. That said, know sweet FA about the boy.

Hope it works out well for both parties.

England were more effective with Crouch up front

Cant see that tbh. Our defence isnt that bad. We need players to get us up the other end, though, as we are too slow with our build up. Would playing a CB at CM help that?

Also, Crich is our best defender and key for us playing it out from the back. He’s the only ball player we’ve got at CB, so not surprised Hughes has brought in a new CB who doesn’t look like Bambi on ice like the rest!

How does the Irish league compare against the football league would you say?

I’ve no knowledge of the Irish league at all!

People were raving about Platt, three matches ago. Now suddenly he's 'Bambi on ice'.

I don't see Hughes dropping Platt - unless he's poor for another few matches (and has he been that poor so far?)

The new guy apparently can play from the back.

It's not a negative tactic to have two centrally defensive minded midfielders. To use the ball positively, then we have to be more dominant in midfield and that can only be with players that have the ability to get the ball back quickly.

Classic example Jones/Doyle in L2. Neither of them were any more attacking minded than Smallwood, but both were tough go getting ball winners.

Put another way, we will just get overrun if we decide to have a more attacking central midfield player. We've got three creative players behind Cook, for the sake of balance we can't have another one.

You talk about Iran as if they were the worst team in the tourney. Fact is they were Top 20 ranked and that's mainly because of their tight defence. In fact England's group was the only one that had all the teams in the Top 20 and all their rivals strength, really was keeping clean sheets.

I like the sound of this signing. Quite a fair bit of experience at a decent level.

Its good to get on board permanent signings wherever possible. As good as our loan signings have been, including Critchlow in this position, its that uncertainty of losing them mid season which nags a bit.

Look forward to seeing him play for us

    Good luck to the lad.

He's taken a step out of his comfort zone to join us and I hope it succeeds for him and us. He said the right things in his interview. Good to hear him.
