We missed (by a long way) an excellent chance for promotion last year in what was a pretty poor league.

The massive overhaul this summer is almost certainly gonna mean it takes time to gel and get into our stride. How long that takes will be the deciding factor on whether we go up or not in my opinion. I think we have a great chance this year but there is also a strong chance we fall short for a number of reasons. However we must believe we are heading in the right direction and trust if we fail this year then we’re in a really strong position for the season after.

As has been mentioned - if this plan don’t work then where the hell do we go?

I think with the investment in the team and the managerial experience we have not to finish at least in the top seven would be a catastrophic failure

The teams that are promoted this season will have had no more time to 'gel' than we have, so much will be the changes be for most clubs close season..

And as has been pointed out, the longer deals given to several players mean there is a structure in place that should avoid another massive overhaul next Summer, if we don’t make it up this.

Going to be fascinating watching the adjustments that are (and are not) made over the coming weeks. Our manager is definitely someone who will hold his nerve, let’s hope the supporters do. But if things are going Pete Tong for long will this look more like stubbornness?

    Anyway, IHWT.

hopefully the league is just as poor as last season if it then we have a hell of a chance of going up .............

maybe yesterday was a very good reality check that we ain’t gonna walk this league and we are in for a real battle to get out of it .............. had we beat up on Chesterfield then maybe the players and us lot would have got complacent.............. we are in for one battle but at least this time we look prepared to take it on

I didn't go yesterday but apparently Cook set Chesterfield up to nullify our formation and did it pretty effectively with regards the score, the downer for me is why we didn't/couldn't change formation to counter Chesterfield, why not.

Yeah that’s what I meant by being in a great position for the season after.

Finishing outside the top 7 will definitely be a failure but failing to go up might not be. We could finish 4th on 80 odd points and lose to a dodgy pen in the play off final.

Regardless I’m properly looking forward to it but then again I always am!

Too many of our fans think the first 10 games are some sort of practise and doesn't really matter of we lose. By Christams it will be building for a promotion push for next season. NO! Promotion this year for me and losing more 4 out of 10 would be very worrying and a poor return or Mr Rupp's investment.

The better you start the season the better you can ride out the inevitable poor run later on. Treat every match as vital it’s the way to go

Dave, Chesterfield didn’t just nullify our team, apparently it lead to them controlling the game, and the reports suggest they could have more.

how many times have we started really well only to fall to bits at the end ????

This club during its last 3 promotions have started the season indifferently ......... 1995 , 1998 and 2012 and we still went on to go up :)

don’t get me wrong I want a great start but it’s not the end of the world if we don’t ..................

Bristol Rocers lost 7 out of the first 14 games didn’t stop them did it ???

based on what mystic Meg ?????
I’m sure you went out and put big money on them to go when they languished near the bottom ???
What was it that made you think that ??? There getting out of jail draw at Valley parade last season .......... still no doubt you will have clear evidence that you knew better than the Bristol Rovers fans last season :)

    hindsight a wonderful thing isn’t it :)

A 3-0 defeat in a friendly and some are writing the season off already. Have faith, it might take a few months for a team to gel but we are in a far better position as a club to try and move forward. No guarantees we will but let's not see a defeat in what is a meaningless game result wide dampen the enthusiasm.
