    Yeah, right.

He'll have weighed it up in light of a budget he was given (because he was a budget manager, remember, budget budget budget) just like Hopkin had to weigh it up when he decided to stick with Drury, before changing his mind and bringing in Anton McElhone (remember him?) whose arrival was so influential (for a period) that he was declared the 'Unsung Hero of Valley Parade' by WOAP (https://widthofapost.com/2019/01/09/magic-mcelhone-the-unsung-hero-of-bradford-citys-revival/).

Not a chance do I believe Adams had a sensible choice to make. He'll have made the decision to stick with Trueman, rather than replace him at the expense of something else.

You're right that he was very positive about Trueman, but only AFTER he made his choice to funnel his funds elsewhere.

Sorry for late reply, in his chat with Jamie Raynor he said MT knowledge and input, at least initially, would be invaluable - but think others have already answered. Been a long day

I think Hughes applied, Sparks got excited and wanted him straight away, and Rupp signed it off.

To be fair, I'd have done the same. It's Mark Hughes, he's definitely worth more of a shot than people like Steve Evans and Pete Wild, and if we were getting the cold shoulder from folk like Grant McCann and Darren Ferguson then absolutely I'd jump at the chance of appointing someone so high profile with such huge experience.[/QUOTE]

Especially if you're about to try flog season tickets for next year.

Without doubt Hughes is a big name, its rejuvenated the fans and the attendance tomorrow will show that.

It's what you'd expect from a marketing guy, a masterstroke to some degree, but without wanting to be a partyppoper I'm still not convinced the appointment is anything but a short term injection of hope.

It *could be* a masterstroke, and we need it to be. But it's extremely fortunate that he'd even consider coming here, all things considered. People on social media are talking like Sparks and Rupp have done something miraculous, when in reality, Hughes approached the club. Well done for not scaring him off, I guess?

That's why I think everyone needs to get behind this 100 %, give it the best possible chance of working, and not moan and complain if (when) we are still losing games with these terrible players.

I don't think there is a better chance of this working out with people like Rupp & Sparks in charge of the club. I don't see a better option anywhere, now or in the future. There's a case to be made for appointing and gambling on someone younger, moving the club in a more progressive manner, but there's no progression at the club full stop. It's an all-out, total club manager or nothing with these guys. They're not appointing a DoF, they don't think there's a problem.

    Fingers crossed.

I don’t think we’ll see much impact this season - we still have the same players who’ve been poor all season - we might get a result tomorrow but it will be quickly business as usual. He’s not a miracle worker - he can only work with the players he’s given, all distinctly average.

Injection of hope, but isn’t this the case for whoever we appointed?

I do kinda get what you mean though but let’s be fair if anyone else in this division had appointed MH I think we’d all be saying why can’t we attract him.

This might not work but I’m far more excited by the prospect than appointing one of the usual league two merry go round of managers.

Let’s be honest, a few days ago we were all voting on Evans, Wellens, Wild etc getting the job. We now have a guy who lets be fair, if Leeds appointed him to try save from relegation then there wouldn’t be an absolute outrage. Support him from the stands and boardroom and let’s see where this journey goes!

I don’t think he’s in it for the money. The man has a net worth of around £20 Mil. Hughes said so himself, he wants to be back in the dugout an misses the match day experience. I think he’s here for all the right reasons and I could not be any more happier than I already am with that being the case

Ta Simon . Yes we all believe “ initially “ and what it means . It’s up to Trueman to find a niche?

You're right, there is definitely an element of luck about all of this. There is no way anyone, least of all Sparks, could have anticipated this outcome when Adams was given his marching orders, and if he hadn't checked his junk emails when he did, he would have been oblivious to Hughe's interest and would probably have appointed someone else. It's definitely more of an opportunity that's presented itself out of the blue rather than some kind of masterstroke, but the important thing like you say is that everyone gets behind this 100% to give it the best chance of being successful. And by everyone I don't just mean us as fans.

A shame it's taken him almost 6 years to realise, imagine if he'd had a little more football knowledge instead of supporting "Mr I know football" and given McCall a few bob to improve our squad after our Wembley apperance as Millwall did the season they lost out to Barnsley a massive opertunity missed.
Then again what's 6 years when the other 50+ years of my watching Bradford City have been in or around the bloody khazi league :(.

And he took his chance we were bottom of the league when he took over and we finished very comfortably

Hughes and Hodges were bottom of the fair play league 3 years running, seeing that picture of them on the website you can see why :)

I vaguely recall him being on the front of a programme when we played them. They played in some sort of fluorescent yellow.

Thats entirely possible, I’m almost certain I have seen him against us, could be either VP or the Lane . It would be good to have it confirmed. Basset rings a bell too, ( not Mike! )
