What by sacking the same manager that he'd handed a contract extension to days earlier?

As for getting another job quickly I can't see it unless he returns to a lower league team North of the border where I would happily drive him (and his ego)

I think it goes to show that personal fit is as important as credentials.

There's loads of other examples - Capello and England, Mourinho and Man U, we could go on for hours.

It happens in regular life and jobs as well - many times a person is interviewed and you'd think they'd do well but they just don't gel with others.

 

I hate the idea of sacking yet another manager but the consequences of keeping him will probably result in a financial loss. I want promotion but I’d settle for being entertained. I am really questioning why I should go.

 

@Park bantam - I agree his cv said he was plenty good but it’s now clear that he’s not doing the job expected (and hoped for).

 

Unfortunately I think you may be right on the rest of the season. As stupid as it sounds I do actually think he would get another job as he will use his cv and our apparent behind the scenes issues to pull the wool over someone else’s eyes whilst telling them how great he is!!!!!

 

I don't think Sparks knew what the plan was.

He spoke about developing our own young players and our own in-house recruitment team.
Then it was promotion and not accepting mediocrity.

He brought a Manager in who doesn't trust young players and has wanted his own recruitment team.

I think he thought the short term pain would be worth it if we went up. Unfortunately, and regardless of past record (as even Radio Leeds were saying earlier), Derek has shown he is not capable of building the right team and setting out the right tactics and formation to win games.

 

We are just too easy to play against and any half decent manager doing his homework knows we will line up with the god awful 4-2-3-1 and all they need to do is play 3 at the back(leaving cook isolated and dominated by 3 defenders), push the wing backs up they then have acres of space as we are so narrow and have no width (even though deluded Derek thinks we do have width), press our midfield and centre halves and just wait for us to make mistakes (which happens every week). We on the other hand only look to change when we decide it’s time to chase the game, Derek throws on strikers that couldn’t hit a cows arse with a banjo and with no instruction of where anyone is meant to be playing. From the point he made the double substitution today no one had a bloody clue what formation we were playing and what they were meant to be doing!!!!

Is Andy Cook the problem? We can never press from the front and put teams under pressure, because he can't run.
We always end up dropping off because the other team would break the press easily.

 

Cook is a decent battering ram at this level but needs some legs up front with him, we are effectively playing 3 number 10’s that are too sporadic in getting up with play and leaving us with no width, as for behind them Sutton is left to do too much work because as the game goes on Watt just drops deeper and deeper, with Bass playing like David James today I thought at one point in the second half Watt was going to be that deep he was going to be playing behind Bass let alone the Centre halves!!!!!

I was in the camp of stick with it until at least end of season, purely because our history of hiring and firing clearly hasn't worked, yes he's got a decent cv but I now believe that is down to more luck than skills. At this level you don't need a team of great players, you just need 2 or 3 and fill the rest with grafters etc. Not sure what he had at Plymouth but at Morcambe he inherited Gomez and Stockton, here we don't have them 2 or 3 good uns you need, and to add to that his 1 up front is awful.

 

Mr Sparks should be dictating the plan to the new manager(s)

For no reason other than to remind us how good it can be, I just found this again. Enjoy, I think we all need it.

 

The person with the most experience usually takes the lead it doesn't matter what the power balance is it's not a surprise really
