wasn’t our decision. Some clubs do have a very lazy attitude towards games not going ahead when it suits them.

in a season where some teams have 4 games in hand something needs to change.
Are you aware that Grimsby did get fined for postponing their game?

Grimsby were fined due to breaking Covid restrictions which resulted in postponements, even then I believe it was a suspended fine.

Grimsby's postponement against us was nothing to do with the weather though

No they got fined for breaching the Covid protocols. If they had followed them only 2 players would have had to isolate. They didnt follow the protocols and all the team has to isolate resulting in 3 games having to postponed.

So if a team do nothing to prevent a game going ahead, thats all good is it?

Ah right then so when one club doesn't do what they are supposed to do fine them. But don't fine Scunthorpe for not putting the covers on or clearing the pitch. Cool.

I think you should stop digging your hole deeper!

The pitch is waterlogged already, so putting the snow covers on won't help at all. The water already in the ground will freeze tonight and still be frozen in the morning.

Even if it melted tomorrow, the pitch is only gonna be waterlogged again.

You can't just leave the covers on the pitch for a week as it kills the grass.

There's little Scunny can do, unfortunately, other than pray the temperatures don't drop as much as expected later......but let's be realistic.....there's no chance the game will be on, as frustrating as that is.

I actually do think there's some merit in clubs having to face 'punishment' if they don't make reasonable efforts to get games on. some situations are clearly extraordinary, but the original game is a good example. Forecast overnight temperatures of -2 degrees should be no reason to call a game off. If pitch covers had been deployed, there wouldn't have been a problem. It appears to have been a convenient opportunity to postpone a game whilst they were in the midst of an injury crisis. That sort of situation, I think, should have consequences.

If the pitch isn't playable today then its not gonna be playable tomorrow.
Don't know what they are holding back for in postponing this game.

Probably because no one can go, and it's not that far for the team to travel.

    But yeah.

Some time today, lads, we haven't got all year.

According to their forum they say they have 2 of their better players out injured and would not make tomorrow’s game. However would probably make it in time for next Saturdays game. Not a lot of incentive to get pitch ok for tomorrow!!

There is about a zero % chance of this going ahead. Waterlogged on Saturday lunchtime, didnt stop raining till sunday am and been sub zero temps ever since, freezing the waterlogging. Put your beer back in the fridge and watch Hoby City instead.

Tend to agree with you (except for the Holby City bit).

You wonder if they had put the covers on early Saturday afternoon, if the water underneath would have slowly drained away, virtually three days. The covers perhaps could have prevented fresh moisture falling on the pitch and provided some insulation against the frost. Just a thought. Surely in this day and age, they can devise some techniques to combat frost/flooding?

You were saying clubs calling games off was a joke and they should be punished.

It’s frustrating, I get that, we all want games on, but how can you punish clubs because of the weather, over which they have no control.

Leicester had this back in the 70’s. Blown up with hot air. Kept rain off and protected from snow and frost.

You prompted me to read up on it. It looks like some form of tarpaulin, and although it kept the surface frost free and protected it from the rain, the lack of sunlight killed the grass off.

That was 50 years ago, as I posted in an earlier picture, they now will have lighter weight material such as poly tunnel polythene, which is transparent and should help growth of grass, if it is similar to horticultural grade material.
