Niall Canavan

If you have a good signing, League Two will suit him.
He's been in and out of the Argyle team, young loanees from PL teams have been preferred but many Argyle fans rate him as our best defender this season.

He's probably moved up north to be closer to family.
He's a leader and for a big centre-back is comfortable on the ball.
The downside is he has no pace and is slow on the turn and will struggle against pacy strikers.

Does this mean Derek Adams is about to be named as your new manager?
Canavan was a favourite of his and he signed him

 

Seems a good addition, looks to be the sort who will be as important off the field as on it. Needed a leader or 2.

Sounds like he’s done well enough at Plymouth though. Happy with the signing!

Provides competition for the 2 CD spots that the O'Connor's have made their own since T&S have taken over.

It might also allow A O'Connor to be pushed further forward to be a defensive CM if needed

 

Don't think it's fair to question Clayton's desire at all. By all accounts he comes across as a top pro, just a shame he didn't sign for us a few years earlier. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him stay at the club in a coaching role.

Don't know a lot about Canavan but does look a good signing. What does this mean for our current CB partnership who have done nothing wrong since Trueman & Sellars came in? Does AOC get pushed out to RB?

 

Solid signing, big vocal lad who leaves it all out on the pitch by all accounts. Exactly the type of character we need around the club, sounds a very McArdle-esque type of player which is fine by me, Bradford lad as well so there’s some personal pride and motivation for him. Played against him quite a few times in junior football strangely, was a big unit then too!

6'4" so should be a stalwart at the back
maybe score a goal or 2 from set pieces.

Sounds like a leader who can do the basics well and is also fairly comfortable on the ball. An upgrade on BRE so decent enough it seems.

 

to be fair we signed Clayton when he should of retired the season he left Bolton!

I'm happy with a nasty c-*-*-t playing central defender we've been far too soft at the back at times.

 

And this is why you need an expert working on the transfers. Would previous regime have known that Canavan's contract was coming up in the Summer, he wasn't likely to be offered a new one and was playing at a club hundreds of miles away from his young family in West Yorkshire? Clever signing.

 

Born in Bramley according to Wiki all credit to the lad becoming a City fan it would have been so easy to go to the dark side .
