I like this Radio Leeds commentators questioning, proper journalist, not shirking from asking McCall tough questions.

 

Damn, my ifollow just dropped, just as Jamie was asking Stuart a very interesting question about him having to be reflective of the fans questions and comments. Deffo would have been a feisty Stuart answer for sure! Maybe he ripped the microphone out.

 

That's a drastic comedown from him talking about our play off chances on Saturday to be fair.

 

What did they get right?

Their recruitment over the last few seasons has seen them assemble an incredibly expensive, high profile squad that includes:

Darron Gibson
James Wilson
Bruno Andrade
Ashley Hunter
Ian Henderson
Tom Clarke
Richie Towell
George Boyd

Players who are either Championship standard or were renowned, sought after lower league players. You can probably add a couple more names to the list, particularly for proven lower league talent.

Yet where are they?

CURRENTLY hoping for a play off spot. It's not for me. Just seems they're signing names and overpriced players, and if they finish top, to be perfectly frank they've only achieved what should have been minimum expectation anyway. I don't think they will, either.

Hang on if we continue to play like tonight and lose due to not been able to defend or score,which we failed to do we will be relegated Stuart.

STU: Gutted for the lads. We limited them to one shot. We had good first half. We deserved a point. Can’t be angry with them tonight. They all put a shift in. Saturday was really poor. This better. Nothing in the game in second half. Says Evans pulled out at last minute due to personal issue. We got in good areas but sick for the players. On tonight’s performance showed commitment. Reporter says growing concern. Stu says do you want us to walk away, give it in. No we play like we did tonight. We didn’t look like a defeated team tonight? It was a close game. We’ve got to keep at it. We need a few more players back. Understand fans’ frustration. But, we didn’t deserve to lose. Reporter says fans think we are heading to National League. Stu says players come back will improve us. It’s not good enough at moment but mitigating factors. Understands feeling. Give me 18 months and club will be where we want it to be. I understand where club is, but I believe we can improve. There will be changes at end if season, maybe January. I am not at stage of wanting to give in. It makes me more determined. I want to help this club. Tough times call for tough people. I know where we need to improve, but won’t name names. Understands anger and frustrations. Do you have belief in what’s going on behind the scenes? He does. We need a couple of results to lift spirits, etc. Things can change quickly. Yes a loss, but some positives to take, but understands results must change. Samuels came off - he was exhausted.

Stuart’s on;

-Gutted for our players. Only shot on goal they scored. Did well to limit them after they stuck 4 past bolton here. Draw was fair result. Nothing going for us.
- can’t be mad at players. Put a real shift in. We started well. They defended their box better than us. Evans missing because of a family problem. Called Stuart to tell him this morning(?)
- I am sick for my players. They deserved a point. Players couldn’t have done more.
- we are not in a good position but what would you suggest we do? (Got a bit short with the interviewer here). Suggest we walk away? Lost two more players today. We are low on confidence. Mentioned they scored with their only attempt.
- understand frustrating times. But last few weeks been a lot better (?).
- players to come back to make us better. We need to scrap for points. It’s not good enough the points total we have. Players free of criticism tonight. They didn’t deserve that.
- if you give me 18 months in this job and I’ll get this club back to where we need to be. This will be my last job in England. I am here to help us back. I am not at a stage to walk away. I’ve not brought in many players. People can ring in and send in whatever they want but I’m not at the stage where it makes me throw the towel in. It makes me more determined to stick at it and prove them wrong. I’ll fight it out and when my 18 months is up I’ll prove myself
- I can’t come here and say this area isn’t good enough etc etc as we need these lads. I’ll tell them behind closed doors. Certain things haven’t got our way but we can’t whinge about that. Again we didn’t deserve to lose.
- I back everyone at the club. We need consistency. Scoring wise area of concern. We need a result to lift spirits.
- Austin came off as he had run himself into ground. He was exhausted.
