Colchester aren't a bad team but have struggled financially since the break and have lost three important players from last season in Ryan Jackson to Gillinham, Nouble to Plymouth and Theo Robinson to Port Vale.
They haven't really strengthend with only a couple of loans coming in from Liverpool and Fulham.
I actually think we will win this one 2-0 Guthrie with both.

How do you know that the loan signings haven't strengthened the side. The striker from Fulham is highly rated, for example

Obviously not he'd be one that Stuart didn't rate

On the whole we could have had easier starts than Colchester. They've lost a couple of players but still the majority of the team/squad did well last season so they'll be confident.

From our point of view having had a great result at Bolton and a good result at Donny then another win tomorrow would be excellent and give the players a lot of confidence.

I'm thinking he'll stick with the same starting line up as Bolton. Can't see a reason to change it and Dylan can look to come on and make an impact if fit.

They look to have a lot of pace in wide areas so I would expect them to come and hit us on the break, although they look to be struggling for goals at the minute.

I had to laugh though when reading their manager's pre match comments when he said we've got a lot of pace and power in the team. Not sure he's done his homework on us

Just gone in to get tomorrows game set up, comes up with 1: "Create Account" - which is ticked. 2: "Payment Details" - 3: "Confirmation" , trouble is there`s a football bouncing up and down under Payment Details. My Account is set up etc. Any ideas or is it loading?

Well that will be an improvement on Stuart's previous spell at VP. ;)

Hopefully, we will play attractive football ( behind closed doors) , but show signs against a relegated team who should be better than us.
We want a win but a point will do. Any positive style of football will be better than last season.
    Looking forward to the season.

I blame the teachers (or perhaps someone who has ‘ultra’ needs). Never blame the poster! ;)

Bradford City is massive... it's high time our fans start thinking the same way. That includes Captain Admin, and the owner..who has no name.

So keighley, every team city play in this shite league is a pub team.

Colchester were not relegated last year. Bolton, who we played last week, were.

Don't know how everyone else feels this morning, but it certainly doesn't feel like the first day of a new league campaign. That excitement and anticipation of walking to the ground this afternoon sadly missing.

I hope we get off to a good start to the season in the coming few weeks, otherwise interest in this strange season will quickly wane I fear.

Being a long time exile and watching every week on I follow, today for me is no different to any other season. I am buzzing for it. That is mostly due to the positive start in the 2 cups. Before those games I wasn’t really bothered. I have renewed optimism.

Hard to be excited when we have a manager who clearly doesn't know the club.

4-4-2 is the Bradford City way.

As @Idlebantam@Idlebantam says not the same excitement to the seasons start 1st opening match home or away I can ever remember not being there
Today is the first proper test for us
Can't read too much into the friendly/cup games although alarmingly some didn't look fit
A good start to the season is vital however our squad is paper thin and with no specialist right back and frailties in attack i can see us struggling to a mid table finish and a 1-3 defeat to start with hopefully prompting the new signings we will desperately need as the season progresses

A friend of mine, Colchester season ticket holder, isn’t so positive about the prospects of the season ahead. However on paper and based on last season they should be solid so today is a tough start for both teams IMO.

I simply want us to have a go at teams this season. I don’t care if its not pretty at times which lets be realistic, at league two level it wont be. I want to watch games with some sort of optimism that we can challenge the opposition and make them think, rather than witness the predictable dross we have been served up the past few seasons. I want to see the players giving their all, enjoying their football and playing for this club and above all, give us as supporters something to identify in and get excited for on match days. If we get even some of the above, it’s an improvement on last season which is the non-negotiable we should expect.
