Here we go another season of:
    A-Abject misery
    B-Meh
C- Free flowing football, lots of goals and great entertainment

I am hoping for C and starting against a team beginning with a C.

    Looking forward to the game.

Does anyone know if this is our first ever league game behind closed doors?

The whole squad will be called upon this season and hopefully we get a good start on Saturday.

Not sure what team will be but Sutton is banned and I assume Ismail will be in the reckoning?

I think McCall will want free flowing football, only problem is other teams will come to kill the game and smash and grab.

But, if we get some entertaining football it’s a million miles away from the dross served up by boring Bowyer.

let’s look forward to some change of landscape after the COVID-19 lockdown and some eventual ‘new normal’. Something to get behind / support will be a bonus.

One day we will all be back in the stands home and away.

Very impressed with Colchester last season finishing 6th before losing to Exeter in the play offs before stupidly imo sacking McGreal....

Steve Ball has a big job to do down there. Only managed non league before at lower level non league clubs.
Lost all 6 pre season /Cup games 0-2, 0-4, 0-1, 1-3, 1-3 + 0-2. Beyond that lost on loan striker theo Robinson to port vale, Frank noble (evening @Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander ) and the impressive Ryan Jackson.

Big recovery for them this season needed and with City showing decent defensive abilities in the two Cup games so far and joint 2nd best defensive record at home last season (though that eclipses pre season), I'm going for a 1-0 home win, failing very possibly to capatalise on a good level of chances and possession.

We once had our ground closed, by the FA, for 14 days, after crowd trouble back in 1906, but no home game fell during the period it was closed; that's probably the closest we have come in a league match.

Not the league, but there was an FA Cup 3rd round, 2nd replay against Norwich City, played at Sincil Bank, Lincoln, which was played behind closed doors. However, even that has a listed attendance of 1,300 as some spectators ended up being allowed in on the day.
When Norwich City featured in the first behind closed doors game...

I think McCall will want to play free flowing football but from what we saw at bolton he seems to have Learnt we need to get the ball forward quick at times to catch teams out.
Hopefully we continue that especially at home because too much sideways passing and teams who are just sat in it becomes a struggle.

I have gone for 1-1 on the prediction table. As mentioned Colchester were half decent last season and that’s all I am basing it on. Hoping for a win though and think we can get it. Just worry where the goals will come from this season

Saw the report on Colchester Reading match they played really well first half and were leading 1-0 at halftime. They like us have a young team. A tough but winnable match

Every single game in league 2 should be a winnable match.

It is not only about our players and/or squad size, all the clubs in the EFL are operating on reduced numbers, with the strange situation of Covid, having broken the usual pattern of play.

Very difficult to predict at this stage.

We have seen clubs like Forest Green Rovers and Cambridge visit and play in a way to frustrate the flow of a game.

I think that who scores first will have a massive impact on the final result.

Always hope for a win and if we hope to go up, then unless Colchester are going to gain an automatic place, we should at the very least get a point.

The way we are looking to play I would have thought that Dylan Connolly would have fitted in nicely for us, but i'm a bit more optimistic now after the Bolton performance , a good win at home will boost team (and our) confidence i'm sure...

We need to start the season with a win, so 3 points for me hopefully with an improved performance on the Bolton game.

    City win 2 - 1.

Not fussed about the performance at this stage of the season.

It's the 3 points that count.

Colchester will do well, a well run club with good owners and a club that has an achievable plan. Starting to see some good talent come through their ranks and i expect them to carry on the continuity of last season. I expect them to finsh higher than City.

It is as I posted but it would build confidence for both players and fans it can improve with each game, but of course I'll take an OG from a Colchester player if if means ths 3 points.

When City had that good batch of youngsters coming through McBurnie and co I went down to a Cup game against Colchester I believe they beat a good young City team 4 - 0 or 4 - 1 I got talking to a guy who said Colchester had a good academy that must have been 5/6 seasons ago.
