The single biggest issue for football at the moment imo isn't whether the season will recommence or not; it isn't the issue of players' contracts and it isn't whether players should defer or give up some of their pay. It's about leadership and the complete absence of it within the English game. Nobody, by which I mean the FA, the PL, the EFL, the PFA, the FMA, major sponsors and broadcasters or any individual club or chairman or person in authority within the governing bodies is stepping to the fore and demonstrating those leadership qualities. The FA has proved itself to be toothless again and everybody else, the leagues, the clubs, the players, the broadcasters etc are all seeking to look after their own interests, largely commercial or legal rather than considering the future of football itself. Those involved in the sport are proving that it is self-serving and insular without considering the broader implications including its very existence. The current crisis is highlighting that the current structure is fragmented and lacks cohesion. When faced with a crisis, there is little to hold it together and nothing to allow it to speak with a single coherent voice. Resolve the leadership vacuum and the other issues then at least have a chance of all falling into place. If somebody does step into the leadership void, he or she could start by banging lots of heads together!

At the end of this crisis, there will undoubtedly be some winners but there will also be lots of losers. Unless somebody or some body steps forward and demonstrates the leadership skills which are clearly so lacking in the higer echelons of the sport at the moment, I doubt that the sport in its current structure will exist in the future. It is currently a fecking shambles.

Everyone has said a vaccine wont be ready for 12/18 months.

You're a smart bloke who I believe doubt suffer fools easily. Some clubs are trying to fool you.

Next season is a date! It can be moved!

Don't end this season at any point then you lose the integrity of the game, sponsorship money issues, tv contract issues, season ticket refund issues - far too many issues.

You're also highlighting to sponsors that you should pay less next season because the season might not end and we panic.

Spot on. UEFA, I think, have said or talked about stopping clubs entering competitions next season if they don't finish this. Then they about turn and say seasons can finish early with their permission and I believe Eredivise in Holland are making an application to do just that. If allowed I think that makes them the first PL in Europe to stop. Watch the pack of cards come down after that.
Meanwhile at home our collapse will be from the bottom up. Today 141 year old Rhyl F.C. have folded, any bets on how many more before the weekend?
I missed Ben Robinson from Burton on Sky this morning but I can imagine what he said having met him a few times and this will be a mirror of the Port Vale owner yesterday and Tony Stewart in the paper today, following the Scunny owner two days ago. It is all mounting up to a stop.
At the same time EFL appoint a few Club Captains from L1 and L2 to apparently decide what to do. They are the classic of how football operates in a self interest bubble, possibly like most other countries. Spain have said they will start training but the Spanish P.M. is going to Parliament this afternoon to get an extension to Lockdown, how does that square?

100% mate. What's funny is like League 1 & 2 clubs are highlighting what poor organisations they really are and i am including Bradford City in this.

I'm not saying they all want the season to end but all of them are thinking about themselves. None of them stepping up to the plate and it's like they hope the season ends to cover up how shambolic they are ran. Like if we end it the problem will go away and fans will understand. No fans won't understand because like any business now you need to find a way to make it work.

I don't understand why the EFL, FA are not stepping up. PL will look after itself and will try to finish but these organisations have money.

Sky, BT will think what is best for them. They know that this is the perfect chance for them to reduce tv bidding for contracts and Div 1 & div 2 clubs will suffer long term.

It's a shambles but I understand things need discussing but the panic is embarrassing, clubs and organisations not stepping up is also shameful.

Every industry is suffering. Get a grip football and sort yourselves out! Stop acting weak and thinking about yourself.

Clubs start acting defeatist then many businesses will start thinking it's acceptable. Try to step up and show that you won't be defeated by this virus.

Plenty of money in football and talking about ending the season I find embarrassing!

Talk of regionalised leagues has increased in recent days and although I don't think it will happen at Championship level I reckon there is a good chance it will happen at league one/league two level.

But how will it work practically? If you cut both leagues in two and have northern/southern leagues with twelve teams each then the reduction in the number of games would probably offset any benefit gained from the reduced travel costs.

Controversial suggestion but...how about merging league one and league two into two 24 team northern and southern leagues? Teams gain the benefit of reduced travel costs whilst still playing the same number of games. If this season is ended early it also solves the problem of promotion and relegation between the two leagues. The major downside would be a gap in quality between the top and bottom halves of leagues.

Premier league clubs have told players to plan for a May 9th return to training.

I think this could very well happen. If not for next season, then in the near future and on an enduring basis. The financial pressure on the lower leagues is only growing. I can honestly see regional professional leagues out side of the championship with maybe only 1 promotion from each regional league into the Championship, and perhaps a combined playoff tournament from both leagues. League 1 and 2 clubs were already up against it, this situation could have lasting impacts though.

I think if thid season ends as it is. Play offs finish barring Championship.

What certain clubs are highlighting they can't manage their club correctly.

Not sure what I thinking about reginal leagues. Let's take ours. We have have Salford in ours and they would benefit massively because players will just want to go to the clubs will most money.

Also the thrill gets taken away. I like beating the southerners.

It just doesn't work for me.

Once again I just think 1 & 2 are just looking for excuses for failure.

Decisions are hard to make due to uncertain future
    effects of this pandemic.

Football could continue behind closed doors but players,
officials, trainers and maybe medics all pose a risk.Breathing
out heavily and close contact could all pose a problem as
players have families and anyone could contract this and
one person in a game could infect anyone. Not shaking hands
    isn't the answer.

Decisions aren't being made but the options are there to see.
Either continue the season when it's safe to do so and include
fans.Call the season over and present positions count.Finish
behind close doors.Disrupt the football calendar to start and
finish a season and gradually manipulate it back to current
format which may take a few years to do.

I don't think 'present positions' should count, that's unfair for clubs either in play-off places or relegation spots...void the whole season.....

Just think the same issues that are around today will be around until a vaccine is found.

Football as we know it is f&cked for at least 12/18 months.

National League, National League North and National League South have voted to end the season at its current point. No decision on relegation and promotion though.

so they decide to end it but not what is going to happen next. What if they don’t agree? Do they reverse this decision ?

One issue of regionalised leagues are for those at the top/bottom of the regionalisation where they constantly flip flop between the two. They have no consistency about teams they play etc and are therefore at a disadvantage

I would welcome a return to regionalised 3rd tier football. You would have to restructure the National leagues below us too.

I am not old enough to remember regionalised 3rd division before. Just wondering why they decided to abandon that and split it to create the 4th division?

I don't believe they will get any vote on it. They have just been told they will be informed of the 'sporting outcomes' in due course.

Barrow could be upset then if the decision is just to void it.

I think it is strange the reports say fixtures until 25th April are cancelled. The plays were after that so it would leave the options of still doing the play offs

Doubt it will be to void.

    Think it will be
    1) promote just Borrow
    2) hold play offs when they can and winner goes up with Borrow.
    3) Promote Borrow & Harrogate(2nd place- no play offs)

I think it will be either 1 or 2.

No clubs won't get a vote.

I think theyre waiting on the EFL and decide what they do then go from there.
