You've said that a couple of times but comparing the UK with Germany, these are the current facts as best we know

Testing in UK approx 8,000 per day
Testing in Germany approx 70,000 per day

    Population UK 66 million
    Population Germany 83 million

    Deaths UK 3605
    Deaths Germany 1234

In a country whose population is 25% bigger than ours, Germany has had only about one-third of our deaths from Covid19. Or if you like their death rate as a % of the population is about one quarter that of the UK. And Germany does about 9 times as much testing as we do. Whether that's a causal relationship, who really knows. But on the face of it, Germany's level of testing is having a benefit on the level of deaths from the virus. It does appear therefore that higher levels of testing have worked in at least one other country.

If look at the comparison using the date of the 50th death, which seems to be standard now Germany are about a week behind us. Using that as the time scale they are about the same number of deaths per head of population, and that is my point. There isn’t much difference between all of the countries. Obviously if you just look at today yes there is but the start point in each country is different.

Are you seriously arguing about who's right about death rates. Give me strength.

no, I’m saying the death rates show that mass testing doesn’t seem to have helped

I'm not religious but I've started praying. I get your point but it's not helpful. If anybody knew the answer to this mess we'd have been sorted by now.

It's just that he did it six weeks after he should have done. There's no excuse for their inactivity in February. Everyone knew what was coming, but he chose to focus on Cummins' ideological obsessions instead of planning how to cope with the virus that was clearly on its way to us. There's no excuse for that.

You can choose to believe that if you like. But The Times and the Spectator have lambasted Johnson for doing no planning, coordination or procurement in February. There's no excuse whatsoever for that. It was dereliction of duty, pure and simple.

Ahhh religion, that's a fat lot of good for all the believers all over the planet now, what's the bloody point in killing each other over it when a virus can do it for us...?

The trouble is unless they come out with a mass vaccine programme the only way out is what some of the papers are suggesting today herd immunity. Which basically is sacrificing the old to help the young.

    Wrong.
    Wrong.
    https://keepournhspublic.com/coronavirus-pandemic-ten-ways-the-government-is-making-it-worse/

This quote of a senior doctor from point 6 in the article sums it up:
“We have had nine weeks to run outbreak simulations, set up supply chains to ensure sufficient personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilators, and bring about the availability of rapid, cheap tests.” All of this was simply not done, and some critical tasks, like mass procurement of ventilators, still appear not to have begun in earnest.

Why not? You can hardly blame people for trying to gauge the true extent of the pandemic when it can affect every single one of us. It’s a serious matter and folk want to keep themselves informed. I don’t think anyone is trying to be insensitive.

Of course there is different medical opinion but the government has been guided by the senior health officials in the country who flank the members of the government at every press conference. They have followed a step by step programme and whilst they have made mistakes particularly with testing I think they have stepped up

I don't think it's quite so blunt. The old and vulnerable should be shielded until 60% of us have had it. That should be reasonable protection for them to go about their business with caution. Sweden are persevering with this tactic. Interesting to see if they stick with it as the cases mount.

Very few of the EU countries were ready for this horrible virus, the US weren't ready so I'm not sure as I posted any other party would have reacted faster.
Governments will be judged when this is all over there will be many countries worse off than the UK, that's no excuse, but nobody was ready for this and like if or not China brought this to the rest of the world and tried to cover it up.

Your right the world needs to learn a lesson over this. The possibility of something like this happening has been known about by governments and health organisations and yet nothing has been done. When it’s over and lots of people have lost their lives money is going to have to be spent to ensure if this happens again the world is much better be prepared for it.

@Storck@Storck quoted last week a husband and wife had passed away within 24 hours of each other, I know the family through my daughter and grand daughter, last evening one of the sons who tried to resuscitate his mother was taken to the BRI with symptoms of this terrible disease, his wife and two children are distraught losing grandma and grandad and seeing their father taken away in an ambulance, yes I shed a tear for them when I heard and offered a prayer and I'm not ashamed to say it.
