tbf @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey the lad got pelters last summer (and last season) from a whole bunch of people, there were times when descriptions of his performances made Chicksen look like Maldini. This time around, it seems we are looking at a different player. Certainly most comments now seem to suggest he is our most improved player if not the possible player of the season. Not sure even his biggest fan saw that coming! A new contract for him should be part of McCall's planning for the future.

He’s still young, one of our better players and one of the first names on the team sheet. His overall game has dramatically improved this season so if he continues in that vain he can develop into a very good player. Makes sense to try secure him for a longer period but agree, doesn’t need to be in as long as 4yrs.

There have been some strange decisions made at this club over the past years, however I cannot imagine anyone has considered Wood’s future as a priority when looking at thee future of this current playing squad.

Rahic gave those longer deals, let's hope we've learnt.

Best player we have got at the moment. He’s still got a year left on his current contract at the end of the season . Offer him another 2 years I agree 4 year deal not in the clubs interest .

We gave a three year contract to Omari Patrick, based on a couple of goals he scored. That went well.

Whether it's two years or one, we need to be offering it now because I'm not confident we will be able to hold onto him in the summer if we don't get him tied down to a longer deal.

Hmm best player this season so far? vast improvement on his performances of last season? Wonder who was responsible for that turn around?

I'll tell you who has been responsible; Connor Wood. He looked decent in most of the games he played last season and it was clear then he had talent. Having a prolonged spell in the team this season is imo, the reason he has cracked on.

For a lad stepping up from 23’s into the cluster f&#k we had last season, I thought he was ok. This season, as you say, he’s got his head down and performed consistently well (until Bowyer tried to convert him to a wing back). He’s no flash Harry unlike our other rising star on the other side of pitch. I think of the bunch we have at the club right now, he’ll be the one who’ll be playing in the championship first.

No chance. Poor defensively. Improve him with better coaching and take stock. Has had some good games but letting gIlleard inside to score was hopeless. An error repeated a couple of weeks later.

The lad is bound to make some errors - he will improve as he learns from them. No mention of some of the last ditch tackles he has made to save us conceding.

That's the way, let's keep expectations of the players impossibly high at league two level. That'll definitely help.

Fair point. He absolutely has made some last ditch blocks covering for others. Credit where it is due. His pace is an asset.

Not really. Just honest. Defenders are supposed to defend first and foremost. Having the ability to get forward and add to the attack is a bonus.
His assets are pace and he is arguably the best crosser in the club. However he is poor defensively and his positioning and basics such as show the winger the outside as opposed to letting them cut in has cost us a couple of goals recently. I stand by that if we can improve him then he has the ability to go some way. He isn’t a mezza but he is streets ahead of Chicksen.

And?? Do you think Woods consistent form this season has been a flash in the pan?

A young lad in his first full senior season, can you tell me anyone that has been better than him so far this season? His quality sticks out like sore thumb.

Mezza"s crossing was not a patch on what we have seen from Wood so far though and he is also better at free kicks and corners. Hopefully his development will see him improve to be a very competent left back.

I think you're missing the point. Where has anyone suggested he's better than Meredith right now?

Also, in modern football the full backs aren't just defenders, they are also vitally important to the attack, you only have to look at liverpool to see what they can contribute. Granted, they've a proper midfield and a system that allows them to attack but you can't just dismiss the offensive assets of a fullback as simply "a bonus".

Meanwhile, in League Two, I'd happily settle for a Stephen Darby-type again at right back who knows how to defend first and foremost.
