If this club has any ambition left in it, give this lad a 4 year contract right now. Quite easily play on the championship for me, a very good talent.

    No thanks.

I don't want to see any players get a 4 year contract, that's ridiculous.

We've seen multiple 3 year deals backfire, so even longer? Absolutely not for me, no.

Wood is here all next season. Around January 2021 he should be offered a further two years. Any more than that is nonsensical business based on hyperbole.

As far as we know, Wood is going to struggle just as badly with League One wingers as he did last season. The fact he's quality at League Two level is not indicative of his ability to climb the leagues. I suspect he IS able, but let's take it one or two seasons at a time.

It's not ridiculous, I read constant clamour for forward planning and ambition from he club so as soon as we get what is obviously a talent you want them to play it year by year and see how get on with it for a larger club to come in and tap him up for him to leave on a free? See Meredith.

Peterborough handed out a three year deal to Matt Stephens, they don't really have a bad track record in terms of player transfers do they? What is it you find ridiculous about giving a good player a longer contract....All season his quality sticks out head and shoulders above anyone else in our team.

    Four years though?

Wood has had one poor season, one very good season - as long as he is on a two year deal, nobody can poach him.

League Two full backs rarely if ever attract transfer fees, so as long as our chairmen don't wet themselves if someone offers a whopping £50k or similar, I'm pretty sure we're good.

They should have done the same with Meredith - but four years, nope.

James Justin just sold for £8m in the summer, if the player is good enough the money will be there. I guess our opinions differ in the fact I see Wood as being one of the best talents in this division and is at a great age.

I just don't see any harm if someone clearly has talent in giving them a 4 year deal but that's what I'd be doing.

James Justin turned 22 last week. He also joined a Premier League side from a Championship side.

James Justin has been promoted twice.

Connor Wood is 24 in July, has one relegation on his record, and plays in League Two.

    What's the parallel there?

Read the article wrong lmao, it was FGR that signed him on a three year deal, pretty sure Toney was a three year deal and Mo Eisa is a 4 year deal I think?

Yeah, but they signed those lads for decent money from the higher divisions.

If we were to spend £500,000 on a new player, particularly a striker, then 3 or 4 years makes sense - especially if we're a selling club like Peterborough.

Fair enough you disagree but a year age different isn't huge is it? Just because someone is currently in league 2 isn't a barometer for their talent surely.

He played 26 games in first senior season last season, not sure relegation was his fault.

From a higher division club but how many games did they actually have at a higher level?

To be fair, Patrick was given a new deal off the back of a couple of wonder goals and Robinson somewhat the same.

If wood was to get a new deal in the summer it's probably because he's had a very good full season in L2 and most likely finished the season as top assister at the club and POTY.

Where's Luke O'Brien when you need him?

Didn't he do the same thing?

We gave Patrick a deal off the back of 1 good goal, a little unfair to draw comparisons from Woods situation to the two you have mentioned.

I don't really see a problem with offering wood a new deal. Not a four year one, but two year deal with an option to extend maybe or something like that. He's our best player and he can be tapped up for free in January next year on a pre contract so we don't exactly have lots of time to sort it.

You've never rated Wood and would happily have released him in the summer. I'm not overly sure that your opinion on him is valid?
