You don't get to within one game of it without it either. Different opinions for different agendas.

Whatever they are paying Dreary... Invest in:-

Not back as manager but back as team talk guru with Gary Jones in the changing room and training ground. Whilst we are here Joe Cooke too he would sort the nobheads out

Agreed. Because I don't see him as a manager that can suddenly change our form on the field. Especially with this round peg/square hole squad that GB has put together.
What bringing him back would do however, is get the happy clappers back on board, and make people think about renewing - which is what Rhodes and Rupp should want to happen. The whole reason people are forgetting that Gary Jones has zero management experience at all, is because he's got a great attitude of desire and passion - something that our current two muppets in the dug out don't have at all.

Jones also now works as a support worker for people with severe mental health problems and has openly stated he never wants to go into coaching or management.... So people can cross him of their list of club legends they'd like back.

do you think the atmosphere would've been any different if we'd have done the same but under a different manager?

The Bolton game yes, that had real passion behind it, the rest of the season no. Getting to the playoffs with a good home record playing decent football made the atmosphere.

we got promoted playing, arguably, worse football but the atmosphere was again, arguably, better under Parkinson than McCall.

    1) McFarland took over on the 1st May 1981, with two matches to go in the last season that had two points for a win. He was the manager until 22 November 1982. The 1981/2 season was the first that had 3 points for a win. So yes, McFarland was our manager when 3 points for a win was introduced.

    2) League Records only: total matches, WDL, %WDL, points-per-match

    Cherry 185, 77-41-67, 41.62 / 22.16 / 36.22, 1.47
    Dolan 90, 39-26-25, 43.33 / 28.89 / 27.78, 1.59
    McCall 198, 78-55-65, 39.39 / 27.78 / 32.83, 1.46
    McFarland 64, 35-16-13, 54.69 / 25.00 / 20.31, 1.89 (giving 3 points for the one win in the 80/1 season)

You could add in cup and playoff matches, and still the pattern wouldn't change. No porkies here.

Getting the numbers right doesn't demean Stuart, or downgrade his accomplishments.

so that atmosphere was better under a manager that didn't get us promoted over a manager than did and got us to a major cup final? not sure that's correct.

McCall couldn't turn Scunthorpe around, I don't think he can do it here. He's the type of manager who needs a full pre-season behind him to make a difference (which is most of them), he can't just come here and transform the way we play within a couple of weeks.

if he does return, of course everyone will get behind him even though they may not think it the right decision but it's last chance saloon - no more excuses can be made for him.
