the 352 is easy to play when there is someone vocal directing the players and when the wingback's starting position is 20 yards ahead of the centre-halfs. unfortunately, our wide cb's can't stay ahead of the central man to play a decent enough line either.

clear example was tuesday night. paudie o'connor playing as the central cb of the three; the man responsible for holding the line, calling when to squeeze and when to drop, the man taking the responsibility for when to play offside.

anyone who has ever played the game knows the vocal one of the cb's should be the deepest, he then knows that as long as he is infront of the last man the line is good and he is in control - but low and behold every time he squeezed up and called anything he had anthony o'connor and BRE 5 yards behind him. how is he suppose to do his job when he can't trust the other two to be where they should. it's just poor organisation and completely sums us up right now.

 

352 can work just as well as any formation if you have the players to do it and the positional sense to carry it out. They also have to know what their specific role is in the set up and be regimented in sticking to the plan. Problem with us is the fundamental flaws mean it has little to no chance of working, you're essentially looking at your full backs to be creative. Wood has some but limited creativity, Henley is an out and out fullback. The three Cbs we use don't complement each other at all, none know what their specific role in the three is. Already with this the team has no balance to it. Throw in 2 deep lying midfielders and its no wonder the attack is starved of the ball. Its why the limited three or four game spell of success coincided with a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 formation. I think Bowyer will lose his job still not having the first idea what his best starting eleven would be and in what formation.

 

Totally agree. The man at the back reads the game and directs the players through out the game, instilling confidence into the rest of the defenders.
