New Signing: Tyler French

Hope so 2708, looks like the first couple of signings we've made are players that want to be here and to give their all for the shirt. Last thing we need is for them to get dragged down by being around a player with a poor attitude that thinks he is too good to be here.

 

Exactly, so far its a big contrast in attitudes from last years signings.

I can see your point and its good to see we are not restricted to freebies. However signing someone on a free transfer involves a signing on fee which goes to the player or agent. Even though we have paid a transfer fee the actual money exchanging hands is probably cheaper than a free transfer

 

How many times we gonna see ‘gem’ and ‘non league’ in the same sentence today!!

Welcome aboard to the lad. Steve Williams wasn’t bad at L2 level before and had the physical attributes when he stepped up from non league.....his lack of concentration was his downfall. Lets hope Tyler’s mind is on it and he’s given time to adapt now going pro.

 

A welcome addition, seeing as the likes of right back Mellor and new guy Everton struggle to put in a full season, he will be needed.
Unless you want to see Devine at right back again.

 

It’s good that the club had a chance to look at him over a couple of weeks and a game he must have taken his chance to impress

 

Dont think old steve Williams was ever really that bad once he adjusted to the step up. Decent feet and good in the air. If memory serves me right youve got to take into context the squad in his day which was probably worse than we have now.

 

Good luck to him. Theres plenty of talent in the non-leagues so hopefully we've found a gem.

I'm 100% behind any new defensive signing - they cant be any worse than last season's mob.

 

YEP ....... It did take time to adjust, as they do. However, his biggest 'failing' for me was his concentration, and game reading, as a consequence of that. That can cost a good player a yard, let alone an average one.

 

Looks like the majority are pleased with this signing, think it's a great opportunity for GB to bring in this type of player and develop them into players that he likes.

Never heard of him before so will wait and see what he brings. Seems to get good reviews and is highly thought of at Non league level.

 

and he's pretty intelligent too it seems, he's worked out how to get the fans on side, he knows that all he has to say is he'll give it his all and thousands of supporters will give him a free pass to be absolutely rubbish every week.

Seem to remember O’Connor saying all that when he signed. Former captain etc. Garbage.

Means nothing but no reputation really to live up to for French. He has to make his own name

But you really think if a dream club (his words) offer him a dream opportunity, he will refuse us if we don't offer a signing on fee?

 

About time we looked into non-league for players, there’s obviously talent there. Peterborough have done it numerous times and made some big money so hopefully we can do the same. No lose situation for me.

 

Like this sort of signing. Might work out great, might end up being terrible but there's absolutely nothing wrong with signing players like this.
In fact this is exactly the sort of player who would've fitted 'Rahic's model'. Unfortunately the execution of that plan was shocking (without going into it all over again).

Anybody else wondering if we are going to play three centre backs this year? Before us, Bowyer has a more recent history of 5-3-2 and 4-1-4-1, depending on his striking options. If you play three centre backs, or two behind O'Connor in deep-holding midfield (where I suspect he will do better for us than Akpan and Butterfield did at the base of a diamond), then you have more chance of developing a youngster as one of them.

 

I agree I don't necessarily see him as a project, if he shows enough in pre season he and Richards-Everton have little competition so unless we make better signing they could both be starters for me.
