There is something we can do now without spending fortunes and that is improve our scouting This can be done through contacts the manager has. Hopefully there are signs of that with Bowyer with the two players on trial last week from areas we haven’t seen before. Or maybe part time scouts in different areas of the country. The scouting should not only be for young players but to find bargains where ever they are.

All three of those club invested money to varying degrees and yet all three have a different take on the structure of the way they are run. Brentford have the 'moneyball' system, a use of data analysis at the very core of their operation. Peterborough looking at the talent already showing promise in the lower leagues and paying a premium for that talent, Barnsley with a very good youth system. But what all three do have as a common denominator is a plan and a strategy to try and progress in the future. Another club who changed philosophies in the way they were run 10+ years ago are Burnley, the club restructured its finances through its directors and set out a plan of how they wanted to go forward.

So lots of ways to set out a plan, not one of them unique in being successful. All have had varying levels of success but all have needed funding. If you think any of these strategies can work without a decent amount of capital then forget it because it won't work. Over to you Mr Rupp.

I was told by someone who knows a number of the academy coaches. I also know a few of the 1st year scholars, as I coached at that age group at grassroots level.

Agree. City are not unique in wanting success, although you would think so given some posters. What we can’t afford to do is let the club wither away, while we wait for the Youth to develop. We have to investment and a plan.

Regarding the 'part time scouts' - There are many freelance scouts who will attend venues, and report upon your specific instructions, for a small fee plus expenses. I am sure most Managers have a 'black book' with many of these scouts in.
When resources are tight - You just need to use it more. ;)

If only 'telling' them was so simple, Ricky. (Most would have gone today ! ;) )
This is an area where GB may use psychology - Painting two mental pictures for each of the players .......One at VP, the other away from VP. Clever stuff, and breaks no rules.
(Gary isn't studying DoF for nowt, you know.)

billy beane, mr moneyball, the man who took the system to the oakland a’s is part of the consortium that owns barnsley. their youth system is what attracted them there, now they do both. they’re actually now one of the richest clubs in the country.

He certainly is, its a system that can work but you need to put a lot of funding into your data research and analysis. I like it, its thinking outside the box, something different to the norm. When you can't fight the big boys head on you need a change of direction and i agree with you that a plan like this takes a lot of time and planning and a core belief that what you are doing will succeed. We know long term we will never compete with the big sides around us, even the likes of Huddersfield are on another planet in terms of capital. It would need an owner/s to come along with that belief and mindset though, and be prepared to back it till it gives some sort of success.

but it would also need a fanbase to accept that for the first few years there will be relatively little success and little to show for the work being done behind the scenes. unfortunately, ours wouldn’t accept it.

Chris Lines wouldn't be too bad on a one year deal, 33 and got the experience of getting out of League Two. Most Rovers fans are sad to see him go.

They are moving quickly and had a good run at end of season. Already signed a lad from Stockport who banged in the goals.

That Scott Pollock lad looks decent for them too, came through that youtube series then they snapped him up and believe he got their young player of the season.

    Certainly doing business early.

It’s Curle as manager isn’t it? Seem to remember him signing a lot of players wherever he goes

Not a rumour but these two have both rejected new deals at Crewe. Both good sizes at 6ft4 and could possibly be decent for league 2. Crewe were very unlucky to not get to the play offs this season.

Also unlikely I know but Carey and Lameiras are both out of contract at Plymouth. I would expect them to reject the new deals offered and play higher, but wouldn't be bad if we offered them something.
