Dieng is more comparable to Akpan.

Don't have a preference for either.

 

I know Wright was supposedly recruited as an attacking midfielder, although performances for us suggested he just ran around in various parts of the pitch. He did play as a defensive midfielder for Southend, so I think the comparison with Wright is valid.

 

Question is, would you sooner have Law and Dieng or Akpan and Wright...

The former rather than the latter without doubt.

 

I liked Atkinson - a good reliable player. He moved to Mansfield a couple of seasons ago when they offered him a longer term contract - I believe he is still there but mainly on the bench.

 

From what I have seen so far, Dieng is a better player than Wright was for Southend.

 

Nah, he’s a young Inestia - you guys should try make a move for him.

 

How good or bad was Wright when he was at Southend? He’s one of the worst signings we’ve ever made, doesn’t seem to have a good asset to his game. Nice hair though.

 

My brother does football reporting for a local community radio station in Essex. He watches Southend a lot. He told me before he arrived that he didn't rate Wright at all. What the previous transfer committee saw in him is anyone's guess.

Well, he was quite poor - came with a reputation of being an attack minded midfielder but he never did anything on the pitch to suggest this. It is true that he played on with an injury (because we were so short of players) and he was played out of position at times but he had other chances to shine and, quite frankly, he did not. Overall, I was of the impression that he should go down a division and try there. So my overall impression was that he was poor ........ I just thought your management had seen some talent that they could bring to the fore ..................

 

Our ‘management’ said ‘he knew football’. Turns out he didn’t at all.

 

Southend never seem to have much to play for so this fixture for me is quite simple. If we start like a train I think we will win comfortably, if we are sluggish and give them confidence early I can see us getting turned over.

It’s not a must win in terms of points available after but I think in terms of making sure the Barnsley game was a one 1 match blip and keeping the momentum going it absolutely is a must win.

 

Only five draws between both sides all season so I think we all know where this ones heading! Weird one for Southend, they've lost the same amount as Plymouth who are below us but won only two less than Peterborough in the play offs. Suggests that on their day they're dangerous but can be got at.

I think we are all looking for Hopkin to return to the Christmas tree style formation that helped us find form and move away from the style used at Barnsley.

 

Yes - on "our" day Southend can possibly match any of the teams in the division - at times there seems to be very little difference between teams flirting with relegation and those aspiring to the play-offs. Difficulty is that no one Southend United team is the same as the previous game so far this season ........... and you can never be sure whether the team will "turn up". Add in the fact that the team can go from being zombies to world beaters (or the other way round) during the half time team talk and you end up with a group of fans wondering whether football really is a "beautiful game" ........... or whether going shopping with the partner is a better option.

 

Hope we go with Caddis at right back, if so predicting a 2-0 win. Up the City.
