Doyle has scored goals all his career he really is a penalty box player. Put him as second striker with abilities like Jon Stead and I am sure he would score plenty

Getting rid of Doyle would be as useful as getting rid of O'Donnell.

I honestly do not know why anybody takes any notice of @Pink Dolphin@Pink Dolphin, getting rid of Doyle in the middle of January when we are in a relegation battle!!! We reduce the wage bill by asking players who are not part of the plan to leave and find other clubs, not the players who are part of the squad, or a key members of the team. I know it is a lot to take in, but have a go and stop posting crap.

What a complete joke of a comment this is.. How has his work rate been poor???.. He runs the channels, chases down the ball, tracks back when we lose the ball and is now starting to score goals!

I think your comment is a complete lack of understanding of what he was being asked to do and his skillset. If you think he was poor when asked to play as a battling "target man" striker then you're probably right, but only because that is not the striker we signed. He is not and has never tried to claim to be that type of striker, however he was still constantly running for lost causes and doing what he was asked. Now we're playing to his strengths and he's getting better and better.

I really don't see how you can label him a disappointment

Don’t fee we can judge him properly given he spent he first half of the season having balls hoofed up to him (up against towering CBs most weeks) with nobody within 50 feet of him.

The last few weeks/month we’ve seen a better tactical plan and style of football and he’s been hitting the back of the net. He’s a good player and an asset to the team, we just need to use him correctly (i.e not hoof it up to his head all game)

This is going to sound insulting, so apologise in advance, but if you have Doyle down as having met expectations then WOW.

7 goals, 4 of which were penalties, AND you think he's worked hard enough even though a much less talented player has outshone him (in the eyes of Hopkin at times) then that's something else.

Crikey... I get that he has more involved in the more recent games, when he scored a couple from open play, but there is a huge difference between being involved and giving your all to the cause. Miller, Payne and Ball work extremely hard and are the reason our high press works.

    Doyle, not so much.

I never said he has met expectations, none of the players have in the 1st half of the season, however he's certainly now showing when used correctly what an effective and quality player he is.

Who is the much less talented player?

I'm sorry, but you clearly have blinkered vision.. If you don't see Doyle working hard and pressing.. The amount of times I have seen him chasing back when play breaks down or is on the halfway line trying to put in a tackle.

He doesn't have the pace of Miller, Payne or Ball so probably isn't asked to press as much as them. I'm sorry, in fact no I'm not, you're just wrong.

If we could watch full match replays of our games I would gladly highlight to you the amount of off the ball work he does... Yes he gets frustrated when the ball is lost or what he views as the correct pass is not made near the box, probably because he feels he can score. I don't see how you're watching the dame game as me (certainly over the last few weeks) and suggesting he doesn't put effort in.

I'd be interested to see a few examples of times where he won the ball from an opposition player either as a result of this harrying or indeed just using his strength.

The players that actually work hard have made things happen through this kind of endeavour.

Are you SURE Doyle has done that, or are you failing to differentiate individual performances in and among strong team performances?

I'm absolutely not failing anything. I think you're just using his performances from when Hopkin 1st came in and Doyle was asked to perform a task he is not built for and clearly got frustrated at. Rather than looking at his more recent performances and seeing how well he has performed. Although he could probably have scored more due to a bit of poor finishing. However I think to questions his work rate is laughable.

Has Duckworth been going to college to learn to spell and come back with a new username?

Seems to have a new rumour every day (none yet to come true) and now this??!!!!

That started out as me paraphrasing other fans, that's not my personal opinion - I can see how it looks like it!

"Same can't really be said for Miller, who has arguably been better (which is bad, when some deride Miller for his lack of ability...)"

That's the start of that train of thought.

    I actually prefer Miller.

To put it simply, I’d sooner have Doyle in the team than not. I’ll judge the lot of them post Rahic. August to November you can write off.

Yeah let's get rid of a proven goalscorer. I mean, who needs them anyway.

Letting Doyle go would be a statement of intent - intent to not go for promotion next year and possibly get relegated this year. We all knew from the start that he worked with the right type of service and support alongside. He is clearly coming back into form and getting the right pressing team play around him. The pressing game forces opposition into mistakes that a goal poacher capitalises on
