Riley isn’t ready for league football. Shows the farce that is U23 Premiership football. He should have gone out on loan earlier to gain experience, now at his age it may be too late. The fact that he, Breunker etc were/are on £2k+ a week showed how “he” really did know football.

Alex Jones is made of glass, so getting someone to take over his full contract will be tough, given he is out of contract at the end of the year, it may be a loan/extended trial until the end of the season to prove himself. Easy pay off, so he can spend the spring in Dubai on Insta.

Josh Wright..,I fear we are stuck with this excuse for a footballer for some time. We will be paying him to stay in Essex & have his highlights done.

Reeves...who knows if he is still breathing.

McCartan, tell Lincoln to buy/take over full contract or bring him back.

Gibson, latest excuse is he can’t get fit enough..how many more chances does this kid need? Is it a lifestyle issue or attitude? Bin off with Omari Patrick & Tyrell Robinson.

    I think that’s unlikely.
Wright will find a new team even if he has to drop a league. Riley is young and will probably be a good player in the future and Jones only has 6 month left so it won’t be too much of a finincial burden.

Jones probably has around £100k left on his deal.

Wright and Jones a lot more

From what I understand from a Solicitor familiar with these payoffs. It is usually 50-60% of the contract remaining that is agreed as a payment.
It then gives the player time to obtain alternative contract elsewhere, either making up the remaining they would have left on a contract (6 months in Jones' case) or potentially more.

But is that 50-60 of their basic or of the total possible worth?

I would say around 40k left for Jones and yes a lot more for the other two but the other two will find other clubs.

So you reckon he is on around £1.5k a week?

    Not sure.
It was at a family gathering over Xmas and a destant relative's new partner. So may struggle to address that question.
She worked with a Sports Marketing company in Leeds .
    Will try .
Purely a guess though. I would suggest it would be the basic wage.

For the record when we were discussing the situation with wages back in Oct/Nov and I did some research these are the figures I came across for wages (And expiry dates for contracts). Most are double or triple sourced but some of the lower ones are single sourced

    Player. Wage p/w Expiry
    Eoin Doyle £5000 30/06/2020
    Sean Scannell £5000 30/06/2020
    David Ball £3400 31/05/2019
    Jack Payne £3000 31/05/2019
    Joe Riley £3000 30/06/2020
    Ryan McGowan £2500 30/06/2019
    Jake Reeves £2500 30/06/2020
    Nathaniel Knight-Percival £2500 30/06/2019
    Hope Akpan £2500 30/06/2020
    Anthony O'Connor £2200 30/06/2021
    Josh Wright £2000 30/06/2020
    Kelvin Mellor £2000 30/06/2020
    Alex Jones £2000 30/06/2019
    Richard O'Donnell £2000 30/06/2020
    Jim O'Brien £1600 31/12/2018
    George Miller £1500 31/05/2019
    Adam Chicksen £1500 30/06/2019
    Ben Wilson £1200 30/06/2020
    Lewis O'Brien £1000 31/05/2019
    Tyrell Robinson £1000 30/06/2020
    Kai Brünker £800 30/06/2019
    Connor Wood £600 30/06/2021
    Jordan Gibson £600 30/06/2020
    Danny Devine £600 30/06/2019
    Thomas Isherwood £500 30/06/2020
    Luca Colville £450 30/06/2019
    Sherwin Seedorf £400 14/01/2019
    Ellis Hudson £350 30/06/2019
    Cameron Hawkes £300 30/06/2019
    Callum Gunner £300 30/06/2019
    Reece Powell £250 30/06/2019
    George Sykes-Kenworthy £250 30/06/2020
    Tom Clare £250 30/06/2019
    Kielen Adams £110 30/06/2019
    Jake Maltby £110 30/06/2019
    £53270

There is a quote from one of your ex board members that I cant find right now saying that turnover at the club ranges from £4.5mill a year to £7mill. At 60% of turnover that means your wage budget is between £52k a week and £80k. This year I would imagine with no cup run your turnover is on to be nearer £4.5mill than £7mill

The figures are obviously just ballpark and I believe they all lack bonuses (I'm not sure how bonuses figure into the caps) but it gives a rough idea of the possible savings

The problem with loans is they often don't work out. In many ways its better to loan them out to a European club where the leagues are less physical but as we see with Chelsea that basically just means all you are doing is buying youngsters to sell them on to continental clubs after they impress on loan. If you want a youngster to break though they need to go out in England but if they aren't ready that team isn't going to play them so they don't develop. If they aren't getting game time they are better off staying at the club with better training facilities.

Also with Riley he was starting to reach that point where a loan may be considered when LVG was at the club who was willing to give youngsters some game time which no doubt complicated matters

Agree. I sense there is a real bitterness with this one and have this feeling he will do whatever he can to find a new club in January.

Best for all parties that he moves on.

That would be closer to what I would have thought and include appearance/bonus money etc. Just remember that for Doyle and Scannell that equates to £260,000 a year.

If all that is correct and includes bonuses etc as you say, it suggests a playing budget of around £2.8mill. How does that square with statements that our current playing budget is the largest one since the PL days?

Well as no actual figures have been released by the club, and given the mysterious exit of a former owner, then who knows what has been spent and where the money has gone? Just because you have a budget doesn’t mean that you have to actually spend it. You can always spend the money on other things. If you have one person making the decisions, there would seem to be less accountability.
Saying something to appeal to people does not actually equate to tangible and quantifiable activity, especially if it is through an opaque system.
I think you or others have remarked that only City and one other League 1 club has not made public/published full accounts!
Frankly I am not in the know, but given comments about the average wages of footballers, which has been sourced on BT, then it would seem to fit.

It doesn't include transfer fees paid for Doyle (300,000) or Scannel. Plus salaries of the backroom staff (Namely Edin Himself).

You just have to look at any club who changes manager. Players who looked awful can suddenly look good while those that looked great now look awful. Every manager has a slightly different style and hence slightly different requirements from players and a quality not appreciated at one club can be desired at another and that player may be a key player at a new club.
