Payne wants to stay according to Hopkin so if we stump up the money he'll stay. He's already settled in the area so he wouldn't need to move , plus he's already had this done to him last season where he was plucked from enjoying regular football at Oxford to been on the bench at Blackburn so would he want to risk it again. Rupp has the money and if he's serious about putting things right after Rahic's blunders then this is a good place to start to prove it.

 

Would you take him?

 

If he goes to another League One team, Rupp night come under some fire.

 

Would Hopkin want to blow his entire budget on him?
He won’t come cheap and we’ll still need others.

It’s a risky strategy because if he gets injured we’d be screwed. I’d love to keep obviously, but doubt we could afford to.

There’s always risk but in the case of Payne, it’s the closest we could ever get to a sure thing - he’s here, he’s showing what he can do, he enjoys it, we can probably get him for below market rate and there’s clearly resale value. He’s every bit as good as Dack was when he left Gillingham, possibly even better.

I’d love us to show some ambition here. Huddersfield might even be willing to wave a fee if it gets his wage off the books.

Quality over quantity. Under Hopkin, having him and Scannell as our players, feeding Doyle, it could be dynamite.

 

With Payne could we not make it permanent at end of season? Say to hudders we will pay the asking price but in summer? Save rest of budget for Jan to bring in reinforcements

 

Not since Robbie Blake have we had someone so comfortable on the ball. I hope we keep him because, he’s the type of footballer most people want to see.

 

Would love to sign Payne permanently. Been my favourite player all season, and is comfortably player of the season so far for me. However, I disagree about him being better than Dack was when he left Gillingham. Dack is the best player I've seen at this level since we were promoted

 

Blackburn made the right decision clearly.

Think Payne price is more 100-300k.

Clearly Town thought if they sent him to a promotion chasing side that it would attract more interest

 

I don’t think we’d get him at that price.

 

They have agreed the loan deal outside the window which is fine. However the deal does not officially come into force until the window opens...once they can register the loan deal.

 

100-300k? We should snap him up immediately if that’s the case. Where else will we find a midfielder who will probably score 10 plus goals from for that price?

 

Sell McCarten to Lincoln for (say) £150k and put that towards a bid of £500k for Jack Payne. Wishful thinking?

Alternatively, I do think there's a decent player in McCarten. I reckon he might do alright alongside Ball and O'Brien. He'd have to up his work rate but I reckon Hoppy and McElhone would soon get him fitter than he was last season.

 

Just wonder if it could come down to how much he can trim the squad to try fund this, Wright, mccartan, jones, Reeves,Riley out surely could fund Payne? And to be fair those players I mentioned are they gonna be a great loss

Dack was already a Blackburn player before Payne arrived on loan that said he is alot better player than Payne and both at the same age.
