If we were doing ok in the league I could be A TAD excited but I do hope this 'cup run' doesn't mask over the issues.

Well they play Wycombe tonight and if they win they are in the semi finals.

Three thousand and eighty odd, It would be a great to get to the final or Win it ;) Away or home, let's go or get there and support the boys.I think doing well in this could lead to better things next season(Or this season ;))

I don't think that was ever the case. It used to be that all U21 sides had to play every game away (unless 2 under 21 teams were drawn against each other) but now it's that they must play the group games away then the knock outs they need permission to switch a draw if drawn at home. The get out that the EFL have is that there is no stipulation the final has to be at Wembley, it only has to be at a neutral venue so that covers them if 2 U21 sides ever got to the final. If Brighton get through tonight then I think they are only the 2nd ever U21 side to get to the semi final after Chelsea U21s got to the semi in 17/18 and lost to Lincoln on penalties which saved the EFL from a Shrewsbury vs Chelsea U21 final on the same day the Chelsea 1st team were at home to West Ham.

Brighton play Arsenal at home on the weekend of the final, which will probably be switched for TV if Arsenal continue their good form for the title race so Brighton fans won't have a second glance at this competition that weekend.

The worse case scenario for anyone is getting a Wembley date against such a side, it will finally kill the competition dead.

I think it depends on the situation of which u21 team it is and who they are playing. Man Utd youth teams get more people turn up than many league 2 and even some league 1 teams and when there are youth matches at Old Trafford attendances are bigger than even you can get. It's often a different kind of crowd, it's certainly younger as it ends up being more families who either can't get tickets or can't afford to take the whole family. Obviously lower down teams get boost of attendance as people who don't go week in week out often attend. I'm not sure how hard tickets are for Brighton so maybe if families can see 1st team matches maybe u21s have less appeal but also Brighton while certainly on the rise don't have the chance to regularly compete for trophies so they might get that same boost

For me there needs to be a bigger incentive to take this competition seriously whether that be higher prize money or something else.
If the PL clubs were to put in say £250k each to enter their kids then the prize money is suddenly a game changer for the winner.
Also to get more fan interest in the early stages I think the PL clubs should play at their home ground and allow up to 3 senior players to play who are either returning from injury or who haven’t featured in the first team over the weekend.
Could you imagine someone like Kevin De Bruyne playing to gain match fitness? How valuable would that be for the kids to play alongside a top PL / World player. I would deffo attend just to see that.

We got 38,000 tickets and I believe we sold around 25,000 in a crowd of 53,000

Historically this match does get big crowds for the final, the record being in excess of 85,000. If we get there (whichever of the three we played) I believe we could set a new record low for the final. Especially if it's Wycombe. I would suggest a Bradford v Blackpool final would be the biggest attendance, but well short of 50,000

And there was a legitimate reason why so many stayed away as well.
The Millwall fans were vile that day - and allowed to be so by poor policing and stewarding

Beg to differ, but hey…have you watch them…….No mugs and quite a few drop in and out of the main squad. It’s a cracking club after their continual investment .

Come on let’s get real. We won’t take anymore than 10000 there for a cup that gains you nothing except prize money if you win.
I think Wycombe or Posh would probably take the most due to shorter travel.

And the catalyst was their new stadium but we still think remaining at VP is the future. But hey.

Brighton were at Wembley as recently as 9 months ago, they also have the change to go there in April if they win 2 FA Cup matches. One against Wolves and an unknown second which would put people off.

It would be a hard sell, it's best that Wycombe just beat them tonight and them two of four lower league teams get their chance in a competition setup 30+ years ago to allow such an event to happen (just like the FA Trophy)

We had that catylist post 85 , do keep up. You honestly believe they haven’t invested 100’s of £m’s , yet your daft comment somehow relates to under 21’st . You ain’t a politician by thinking changing the subject somehow works?

True, and was the only reason I didn't go.
Knew the atmosphere would be horrible win or lose.

Of course they’ve got investors that have invested millions but would they have done that at the Withdean Stadium or the old Goldstone Ground.
Remind me what daft comment I made?

That's how I feel Serg. If we were in with a realistic chance of top 7, this little run in the second hand painted pizza cup would be a nice little side bonus but on its own, I can't get excited about it, however hard I try.
