Well that guy recruited Lewis and Young who between them will probably raise over half a million and Stubs sale if he goes will add to that. Then we have had loan signings like Banks Crichlow and Wright. I don’t think he is doing to badly

 

What good is signing players and selling them on for profit if we still remain rooted in the khazi league?

For a start Olivers and Derbyshires wages are more than the 500k

Derbyshire was a mate of Hughes and Oliver when we signed him had scored 31 in two seasons in the league above.
I think with signings like Chapman Smallwood and Halliday along with those mentioned we should have done much better

 

Calling Harry Lewis a Gent signing is very naive. Lewis openly said himself it was Hughes who brought him to City. Young could well have been, but would Gent have been watching Young whilst he was at Middlesbrough and Young at FGR warming the bench? Highly unlikely, but you never know.

His success rate isn't what it should be and this is his 4th window. Got to be 1 in 4ish that's turned out successful? He's certainly not had an impressive pool of recruits.

 

Well we will have to disagree I think he is doing as well as can be expected for a chief scout. Whether the players he has found have been the right ones for what we want is not down to him

 

Yep. And that happens at 23:59....whereas an hour earlier, Young and Chapman and Pointon and Stubbs have just completed their medicals at various different clubs.

 

What??? Of course it's down to him. He isn’t a cheif scout, he is the Head of recruitment, his job is to find the right ones for what we want. He is the one laying out the recommendations for every whole in the squad. He said himself in Sept 2022 he is the one who sends every signings recommendation to at the time Hughes and Ryan to approve.

Gent has literally in his own words said:
“I will take full responsibility for every player, good, not so good, indifferent, that has come into this football club for as long as I’m here as head of recruitment. It will be my head on the block. They are my recommendations and I’ll live or die by that."

I see your point, but given the budget, it might be all we could afford. Personally I have never understood the need for 30+ footballers. That is just a waste of money, and now look at us. We have spent all that money on players GA can’t use, and if they can’t find another club, we will continue to do so. I think we need 22 players, but some can be young uns.

If we can’t afford quality, the Board need to stop kidding themselves and even more importantly stop trying to influence the fans that somehow we are going for promotion when we blatantly can’t do it without quality. We are being passed by non league clubs who understand this league, and they have owners who are willing to dip in their own pockets.

 

Actually though I think Gent has a lot more poor signings than good ones by some distance,it was Gent who was responsible for Harry Lewis. A podcast with Lewis confirming that it was indeed Gent who sought him out.

 

The line we were sold in the summer was leaner and meaner and we ended up with the complete opposite of that. It isn't just poor communication from the club to the fans, it's clear that's it's a problem internally as well.

 

This 100%. Has Ryan been called to rights about that statement? I'd be interested to hear what he said if so. It's fine coming out of the blocks with some statement of intent, but once it's obvious that its not going to plan, then I'd like to hear from the people who run the club, why its happened, and what is the new plan. Lets think about it. Here's what was planned at the beginning of the season: MH signing HIS players. Squad become leaner and meaner. Anything other than promotion a failure. Instead, we've sacked MH. Squad becomes more massive than ever before. Languishing around mid table. When was all this weird re branding gubbins? Was that last summer in the run up to this season? That's another failure then if so. Shambles.

Lewis didn't openly say it was Hughes as it wasn't, it was Gent who spotted him playing against Newcastle u23s

 

I get everyone being unhappy with Gent BUT his recruitment his driven by our budget. It’s ok Sparks saying we are after promotion but as he or Rupp any idea how much money it will take to get us out of this. Perhaps Gent started off shopping in Waitrose and M&S but was told we can’t afford them get yourself down to Lidle and Aldi. Yes he will have been looking for bargains but there isn’t many around or he wasn’t able to find them. I am perfectly willing to hear him out on this. Plus I want to know whose idea was if to pad out the squad with cheaper players.

I was so excited when MH came to the club and for the summer of 22. I was equally excited when we had all these new players that were going to fire us into league 1 at last. Once they played 5 matches of so I was very disappointed this was not what we were promised and I was left disappointed throughout the whole of last season culminating in the debacle of the playoffs.

I am not an expert on players and their attributes but my husband is very good and he was equally disappointed. This season we had no expectations.

 

I too was very much looking forward to his tenure here, however when his first signing was giving Lee Angol a new contract, alarms bells rang haha

 

Maybe he was given double speak as well and was led to believe he had more money to spend. I like GA, but I doubt he will hang around.
