Exactly, we had our chance with both before Hughes was appointed and they were both snubbed.
Favourite is Leam Richardson whoever he is. Just sounds like a nomark who had 1 flukey season with Wigan.

 

I think that is wide of the mark. He has considerable experience as an assistant to Paul Cook and managing in his own right. He kept Wigan in League One against all the odds, then took them up to the Championship as Champions the following season. He was sacked by the lunatic Wigan owners 16 days after he signed a new 3 year contract. His players seem to like and respect him.

 

And? What don’t we have any ambition to get the best person for the job then?

 

Speaking to someone who knows him yesterday apparently lives in the Wakefield area. got a good payout from Wigan so in no hurry to find employment he is sick of moving his kids from school to school. So it would be ideal for him. Wether he is ideal for us remains to be seen, but he does seem to command respect

 

Why when they are in safe jobs and doing fairly well and come here into the melting pot to be invited to be sacked after a couple of losses from the likes of you.

 

Why would that be the case? Stop acting like a loser.

If we want to get promoted we need the best person for the job.

Sure Wellens would want to gone back up north for example.

 

Why you bothered about style of football instead of promotion. We are not in the an established PL club. We are a failing football club.

 

Because even if Hughes had delivered promotion I would still have been bored to tears.

Yes I want to get out of this league but after 18 months of steadily losing interest I'm now ready for a bit of excitement like Saturday.

 

Wellens took the L2 title twice in 4 years. I saw his Swindon side in 2020 a few times and they played some of the best football I’ve seen in L2. That was the team when Doyle could n’t stop scoring for them. I doubt there is anyone else that’s achieved that record. He left Swindon because of a lack of ambition. Yes he had issues at Donny and Salford but if he did want to come to the north and he thinks he can take us up and beyond we’d be stupid not to appoint him.

 

I think we would have got over the line last season if Elliot Watt could have been persuaded to stay. We badly missed his midfield distribution vital to the way Hughes plays

 

The kind of football that run rings round us and the best team we had played last time we met at VP

 

Worked for Salford didn't it. All I remember vividly about Watt's game is the huge number of free kicks he gave away on the edge of our box.

 

That 'flukey season' is 46 games - its not 3 or 4 games. They were in ownership turmoil - think he did a bloody good job winning the league.

 

You missed the stat that showed he had the best pass completion rate. And Salfordhave really missed him this season while he has been injured

 

Would he ? Do you have any idea what the terms of his contract are at Leyton Orient, or what his personal circumstances are. Just because he was born in Manchester doesn't mean that he has a great urge to move back up north. He might love it in London, his wife might be a Londoner, his kids might well be settled in and doing very well at school. He could be living in a mansion paid for by the club.

Evans is a Scot, just because he once worked in Leeds doesn't mean he want to come back. He could be much more interested in a job north of the border. Evans doesn't want to manage this club, he's just used us to get his name in the frame to secure himself a job elsewhere.

Why would he want to come here when as soon as he started a losing run he was faced with chants like "you're just a fat Jimmy Savill" ?

And then let's talk about compensation. We've sacked so many managers recently how can we even start to think about paying that ? If Wellens has two years left on his contract, and is earning £200k per annum that could be pushing half a million, and the potential of an EFL fine for poaching. For all you know he could have a long term contract.

Not seeking to take another club's manager, at this level anyway, is by no means a sign of having a losing mentality. It's just plain old business sense.

If the manager of your best car wash gaff walked, I'd put money on it that you wouldn't risk litigation by poaching the manager of one down the road.

 

If you're sick of moving your kids from school to school don't go into football management. Worst job security I can think of.
