Disappointing - but needed doing unfortunately. I would have loved him to succeed here - I really would.

The beginning of the end was his pitiful effort in the playoffs, it was always gonna come back and bite him on the arse. And a bizarre attempt to reinvent the wheel from last season when all it needed was a more mobile midfield and a more positive approach.

It's the right call, but hard to feel anything other than depressed.

Listening to Gary Jones last night, he made it clear what was coming and obviously knew that result was the final straw and made a few hints about players not happy with Hughes' tactics.

I'm glad Hughes has been spared a potential toxic atmosphere on Saturday. He didn't deserve that.

Can people bore off with the Trueman comments. Hes a coach and nothing more. He worked for Hughes and will have coached as requested. Plenty of you did this with Drury who is now coaching at Man Utd.

No joy in what hss happened this evening but sadly it had become inevitable - great excitement when Hughes was appointed but things never really gelled and he's been on borrowed time in my eyes.
Gent has to go too as hes been far more miss than hit, remember Truman is now effectively in a caretaker capacity alongside McDonald and a lot will depend on how the recruitment process goes.
I am pleased MH won't have to face a potentially ugly atmosphere on Saturday and I hope the players will respond in a positive way to the shackles and awkwardness of the Hughes reign being somewhat released. For whatever reason they have not been doing themselves justice and they owe it to the fans to raise their standards (as many of them have been alluding to in recent weeks).

Good luck to Mark and Glynn in whatever their future has in store but the right decision has been reached - issues round Sparks and football decisions are a whole separate topic but for now he's done the only realistic option.

But ultimately another sad day for the club and we can only hope positive decisions will be made in the coming days/weeks

Substituting Scott Banks 2 mins after we scored - the first nail in his coffin.

Me too. I feel nothing but sadness. Yes I know he hadn’t adapted to lg2 but our club seems like a graveyard for failed managers.

Can’t help but feel sad, had to go but sad nevertheless. Best of luck Mark.

11 games into the season and we've sacked the manager. So now a new manager has to come in with yet another set of ideas and backroom staff. I yearn for the day when this club is actually run like a competent sporting organisation and not some two bit non league side.

Yes some are rejoicing but he was an exciting appointment which the vast majority of the fan base welcomed and a lot of rivals envious. He was far to wedded to slow possession based style. I am sorry to see him fail

I believe we are constitutionally required to give Stuart McCall the job every time we sack someone.

A good article in the T&A by Simon Parker summarising Mark Hughes tenure, highlighting how many of us have never got over that substitution and timid surrender at Carlisle

A lot of fans, me included, never got over substituting Banks for Platt at Carlisle. One of the most bizarre and frankly stupid decisions seen in such an important match for City.

Depressing summer of recruitment and I had never felt less looking forward to a new season as this.

The season has been depressing to put it mildly so far, and I couldn't see Hughes turning it around.

Unfortunately he bottled a very good chance to go up last season.

Best he goes now to give us plenty of time for a new manager to make an impact this season.

One thing puzzles me, how does Trueman always get to keep his job?

No hard feelings though and wish Mark Hughes a happy retirement

Suggesting it's only a "bad couple of months" is short sighted imo.

Reaching the play offs was only ever papering over the cracks imo and he never once in 18 months looked like building a team that could achieve the sustainable performances we'd need to progress.

Meredith? He was a left back and also a terrible crosser of a ball.

Can’t really celebrate the news as it means another manager has failed and reflects us being in a dire position, but it needed to happen.

lets hope the caretakers enjoy the homeymoon period Sellars and Trueman did.

Hughes wasn’t a complete disaster, last season was frustrating but we did make the playoffs. But we’ve gone backwards and were in no danger of going up.

thank god the board have pulled the trigger as it would have got toxic on Saturday.
