Osadebe and Smith, I think. Although, I believe Smith came only a few minutes before he made that comment. I saw Oyegoke closing down so must have been them two

 

Think he said "1 or 2 of these lads that have come on haven't pressed like the others have all game and are playing for themselves".... we only made 3 subs so Andy didn't exactly do his best at hiding who he meant. Smith didn't really get a touch compared to Oyegoke and Osadeve who seemed to try take on everyone when either got the ball.

 

Almost like Hughes made him a different player or play against how he wanted to.

 

Second half was better than the first. For large parts of that first period it was Pointon pressing on his own let's be honest.

Look it was an improved performance from what we've seen. We did the basics well and defended strongly, albeit we had some fortune with their horrendous finishing.

But some of the comments I've read are bordering on ridiculous. I know we've had a tough time of it lately but today should be the absolute bare minimum level of performance.

 

You honestly believe hughes said to him I want you to pass sideways and backwards evertime you get the ball.....also stop tracking back while your at it.

This says more about snallwood's attitude than anything to do with Hughes.

 

I don't think you understand what pressing is if you think only Pointon pressed in the first half. He lead the press. There's a difference

Seemed like the shackles were well and truly off.

Some excellent performances today.

Whilst Pointon will grab the headlines, and rightly so, his mate Halliday behind him was excellent too.

I thought Gilly and Smallwood looked very good together today. Certainly Smallwoods best performance for a long time by some distance..

We do have some brain dead fans though, booing Smallwood on the one occasion he had to go back.

Well done Kevin McDonald for getting that performance out of them.

If ever a sacking of a manager was justified this was it. Like watching a different side today, that's what Valley Parade is like when you have a manager instructing his team to press and be in positive off the front foot. He didn't try and reinvent the wheel, he simply played players in their right positions told them to press league 2 standard footballers. All I ask for on a game day is to be entertained and today I was royally so.
Thank you Kev MacDonald for giving me back my enjoyment of football even it is the first 90 minutes, cos under Hughes I'd lost that enjoyment.

 

I thought this post was serious until I saw you posted it.

 

Great game. Took about 3 days for a footballing brain to see what was going wrong and how to resolve it.

Come on, give credit where it's due. That was a bloody good performance today. It wasn't just a sneaky one nil, we could have easily had 4 or 5 if good chances had been taken.

 

Great to hear shots going in from all over. Pointon wouldn't have scored if it wasn't for Halliday's shot.

 

True but could've and should've been behind if they'd taken theirs...

 

19 shots, crazy! Much better could have conceded a few though and well done to Lewis for an outstanding save second half. It shows we have a base to build on for whoever comes in.

 

Spot on. I'm not convinced by any of the managers we're being linked with, so I'm up for giving McDonald a few games to see if performances like the one today can be replicated consistently.

 

Past the 93rd minute, 1-0 up, and not only did we have a player drive into the opposition box towards goal, there were three other City players in the box too.

It's far from perfect but the change in intent made such a difference.

 

Deserved victory, much better performance. Good energy, positivity and intent. Congratulations to McDonald on his first managerial win!

Only negative was Osadebe kept losing the ball.
