I know I'll possibly get stick for this but we never got near them, and that's not having a go at our team, Walker booked for a bit of something and nowt shirt pulling was as near as we got to being physical with Boro, they passed us to death tonight but we were left chasing shadows with some of their movement, on to Saturday and Walsall, got a few bob out of our little run and a couple of the lads got game time on their return.

 

Middlesbrough took the piss tonight they didn't even break a sweat.
Never troubled them all game. Woeful performance from a lacklustre City,second best in every department.
Definite division two team out there.

Call me crazy, but I think some people would have been happy if we'd had someone sent off for a stupid and unprofessional foul or something.

 

Boro were polished, all comfortable with the ball ( their keeper aside) and moved it quickly often looking like they'd an extra man.

I continue to enjoy Hallidays form, and again impressed with Tulloch's positiveness with the ball. He's raw as you'd expect but Im not going to knock the lad for that.

 

Couldn't be bothering listening to Hughes, however, if that's what he said, that's appalling. What happened to the 'up and at em' cup tie philosophy.

I bet the players can't wait to see the back of Mr Negative.

 

Agree. The run has achieved some small financial gain, drawn some prospective on the true gulf between ourselves and a championship team so aids something for us to learn from and allowed some game time for some of the squad. Draw a line in it for me, far bigger things at hand in regards our League 2 campaign.

 

Well, i wish i was still on holiday . we never laid a glove on them, stood off for most of the game and watched their pretty football.
Did Hughes ever have any intention or idea about wining that game, other than hoping for penalties.
Can i have my £5 back, so disappointing .
Did not expect to win, but expected more effort and fight than we got.

 

Tonight was a timid display from City,make sure we don’t get thrashed,put everyone behind the ball. I’ve watched City since the 60s and they’ve played plenty of teams who were far better than us in the past but we got in their faces,harassed them and didn’t let them settle and sometimes pulled off a giant killing. No chance of that happening tonight with Hughes ball.

 

Their second goal was all about movement the lad McGree's who got it wide looked up saw the run Rogers made simple through ball in the net game over, I quite enjoyed the game although we were never in it, they won't be third bottom if they continue to play like that even though the Championship has far better teams.

 

Very disappointing and negative display by the whole team and ultimately the manager

Thought Lewis could have maybe done better with the first goal but I need to see the goal highlights again to be sure

Kelly was impressive when he came on, first bit of physicality we’d seen all night and also thought Stubbs, Tulloch and Halliday were promising

Their obvious quality combined with our lot giving them too much respect dashes any hopes of getting a goal

Oh well onto Walsall…

 

Sometimes a team is just better than you. No amount of running around will change that. A very professional display from Boro who to be fair should have been out of sight at half time.

 

I didn’t go tonight so only going on what the comm (Raynor and Kiwomya) said, but they spoke a lot more positively about Tulloch tonight. He looks to have a bit more about him from what I’ve seen too.

I have a question,3 or 4 days ago I am sure we were told over 15 thousand tickets sold so that means we must have sold another couple of hundred tickets at a fiver in 3 or 4 days,isn’t that a poor return with days left on sales ?

 

After 5 minutes it became patently obvious that 'having a go' would've been a complete disaster. They had extremely pacey attackers and crisp ball playing midfielders in the centre. We'd have been slaughtered. Hughes played pragmatically and I don't blame him for that on this occasion. My only gripe is watching his nonsense with the officials. His waving his arms and getting in their faces on every single decision that goes against us is excruciating. I wish he'd cut it out.

 

Bronco, we were weak, feeble and shameful.
The ground was half empty with 5 mins left.
Yet unbelievably, those who stayed clapped the team off.
Again, these fans are part of the bigger issue.

I have to be honest and say I did post keep it at 1 - 0 and hope to snatch a goal and take it to penalties, Hughes quoted the same, thing is I could see what was unfolding in front of me and realised Boro could score most times they broke forward, the second goal was just a matter of time before it went in.
He makes the game sound like a game of Chess, I wasn't aware of many times they let us "over commit" they were playing the ball out from the back and not allowing us the ball, but he's correct we do have bigger fish to fry.

 

I don't often disagree with your posts but I do with this, we probably had a 5 minute spell when he made the subs where we "got at them" but I have to credit Boro on the night it was men against boys, but sorry I can't blame the fans.

 

We lost to a team much better than us from 2 divisions above. They were better than us to a man.

We got out with a 2-0 defeat. If we'd have gone at them while they were comfortably in control of the game, they'd have likely passed it round us with even greater ease and slammed 6 past us.

I don't know what you wanted the team to do. Several of our players simply couldn't keep up with theirs.
