Truthful these last two performances have worried me even more for the season. It’s not effort, no doubt these guys work hard. It’s the quality how many misplaced passes yesterday… I lost count. Add that to a poor game plan and stronger league. Call me dramatic all you like but I see a repeat of Stuart’s covid season. Everything reminds me of it the cautious approach to the window, bizzare signings and experimenting with 3 at back.
We all know how that ended and I can see it happening again. I always thought mid table but last 2 performances Lower mid table.

I winner if Odusina could play as a left wingback. From what I remember he's comfortable on the ball, has the physique and pace to recover if needed.

It's frustrating but I can wait until Smith gets a go because it does feel like Hughes wants to play two up top and he hasn't really been able to do that yet.

That does post the problem of if he's assuming they will be fit every game, which they won't.

On Oduor, I genuinely think they thought he play left wing back but it doesn't look like he can and he's been playing well further up the pitch. Looks like bad scouting to me.

Ok this was a win good move onto next round. This game was better than Saturday. Improvement every match is what we are looking for. It doesn’t happen overnight and let’s hope there is further improvement this Saturday.

I think Odour can play LWB in a 352. There will be an extra man in midfield to provide defensive cover and if we have a more defensively minded RWB (i.e Halliday) then Odour should be able to get forward from LWB.

I said when he was playing LWB in the earlier part of preseason that I was struggling to see why we'd offered him a 3 year deal because on those performances, he looked a very poor signing. To be fair to Oduor, he did say in his signing interview that he sees himself as an attacking forward player and to his credit, since the Middlesbrough game he has showed a lot more promise playing in a more forward role. If he turns out to be a cracking signing it will be more through luck than talent spotting because he was clearly brought in to fulfil a role he doesn't see himself playing. Like you say, poor scouting.

Are you just reacting to what posters have said Hughes said after the game and getting worked up about that, rather than actually listening to his interview? These were some of his comments after the Crawley game:

(in reference to the red card) "That's not the reason we lost today, we made mistakes and they scored a good goal"
"We made individual errors, ones which were unforced, we obviously need to get that out of our play"
"We've come away, we haven't played at our optimum"

But why would a player sign a contract for a position he doesn’t play in? I am a great believer in putting players in their best position. Obviously some players are obliging and will help the team out and play where they are asked but in my view that should not be the norm.

Maybe because he wasn't get any offers from elsewhere else and a 3 year deal is not to be sniffed at? Who knows, but LWB is clearly not his best position.

Exactly that! Lots of criticism on here but I dont think last night was anything like as bad as some are making out. Far from perfect and lots to work on. It was a scrappy and physical game at times but I thought we stood up to that ok and certainly didnt get bullied as we have done in the past.
Oduor and Pattison showed promise and will improve. We obviously need to address both wing back positions if we are to persist with this formation and I believe we will

He's not left footed though so that kind of ends that one.

We need both WB to get forward to provide the crosses, not just one.

There's a little bit of me thinking the team, and i mean those who were here last season, are still a little bit shaken by the play off defeat.
    Tentative and tired looking imo.

You're spot on tbf. I've since read the comments and nowhere does he say we were 'very good'. However, I was responding more in general to the comment about managers being thick if they are anything other than positive.

Practically an Accrington reserve side means it's tricky to say how good or bad the performance was. But you can only beat the team that's put in font of you. Pattinson looks decent, Oduor looks tricky but needs more end product.

Strangest but proudest game as a City fan I've ever had to watch, really didn't enjoy it. That young, tall lad keeping Cook fairly quiet all night is from the Worth Valley and has been to dozens of city games since he was 5 years old. (Although far less in more recent years as his playing/training schedule has become more hectic)

As a general comment yeah fair enough, I've read it in a different context first time round
