Pre-Season Friendlies 23/24

It was 2-2 before mass changes against second favourites for the league above, let’s not throw the baby out of the bath water because we conceded 3 late goals in a friendly after mass changes.

 

What team played second half then? Bolton themselves made mass changes…

 

Except one was in 40 degree heat and the other was on a wet Tuesday afternoon on a training ground two days after getting back from an intense week. Also both against a higher calibre of opposition. I’m not reading too much into the results!

I am not worried at all. Like I said it gives MH a chance to look at formations and pairings against a better team. I am little over the hill now to worry about anything unless its family related. Have a good evening.

He got “some” minutes according to Jamie Raynor. Bolton have done a match report but doesn’t really give much away. City don’t seem to have bothered with one.

 

That's what worries me, I wouldn't think a guy with his career needs "minutes" did he get 90 minutes or was he taken off, I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from.

 

Id imagine it was to just give him a taste of some competitive action. He is still our number 2 and would be called on if Lewis got injured or red carded. It sounds very much like this was nothing more than a glorified kick about.
I’ve seen a few match reports so far and some have been 120 minute games split 60-60 and some have been games with 4 lots of 30 minutes. It’s all to give the squad minutes.
It’s a fitness exercise and just gives the players a chance to try different things against an opposition. I wouldn’t worry about the result at all.

 

I don't take too much notice of pre-season friendlies I'm sure Hughes and his crew learnt things from our 3 so far, I posted before the Getafe game I was happy Harry played as if there was anything in the pipeline with regards Barnsley's offer then I would have thought we may have excused him just in case of injury, then Doyle gets a game, I hope I'm reading too much into it.

 

In terms of the BPA game. I saw GSK play on goal in the national league north last year and he looked too good for that league, I’m a bit surprised he stuck around

 

Lewis played 90 minutes on Friday, Richardson will likely play 90 minutes tomorrow so it makes sense to give Doyle some time today. If Doyle starts on Saturday against Hull then that's the time to ask questions.

I'd like to keep Harry but everyone has their price, we're just another one of 80+ selling clubs, it won't come as a shock if he goes.
I don't know the guy apart from his hugging the badge and his chickens comments and that he had a great 2022/23 season I just hope if Barnsley have raised his hopes and we won't sell because we believe its not enough he remembers it was Mark Hughes and Bradford City who reserected his career.

 

Quite right Wilsden. I'm sure other fans are just the same with their results, for example Tranmere lost 2-0 to a minor league side last week, other results just yesterday

Gills with rest of massive squad and Academy 0 Tonbridge Angels 4.

Correction of sorts. It was Rochdale that won at Tranmere, not really minor league team.
