I hope so too. I backed Bradford City and Stockport County ante-post to be promoted. Obviously I was hoping for the two teams to meet at Wembley but now "Come On Stockport".

Agree far too many took that 1st leg as a positive result, which I had no idea why. Was a very poor performance we scored a goal then absolutely nothing but hoofball.

Way carlisle played in 1st leg they were the ones who took big positives out of the game not us.

We've finished in better position that last season that's for sure. But ultimately Hughes for all his back catalogue has been outthought by Paul Simpson, and that's for all his premiership experience. He never did sort out the midfield problem that at various times through the season made us look pedestrian and lacking in creativity. He will have next season to put right the wrongs that have seen us ultimately fail this season yet again.. An at times alarming lack of pace throughout and a lack of creativity that found the divisions leading top without a chance created over the last few games. That is what cost us promotion, let's see who is let go and who is brought.in, we have a fair few who clearly aren't good enough for a promotion push.

This season has been an absolute failure. To have a 30 goal striker and fail to go up is nothing short of a disgrace and every one of them should hang their heads in shame.

There's not really any point in dissecting today's game in particular because it was a carbon copy of dozens of inept, negative and ponderous performances across the season.

Our midfield has been our downfall all season and needs serious attention in the summer. There's no legs in there, they don't anticipate any second balls and none of them are good passers of the football who are capable of dictating a game. It's just an utterly pointless area of the pitch for us that serves no real purpose.

Attacking wise...well. Hughes has been hampered by losing Wright and then Chapman to the extent that our entire left side is redundant from an attacking perspective but he can't have many complaints when two players he signed to play there (Costelloe and Nevers) are utterly woeful. I dread to think where we'd be without Cook.

I expect the league to be much harder next year for obvious reasons and I'd expect both Cook and Lewis to leave. That coupled with my rapidly dwindling confidence in Hughes and its hard to muster up any interest in next season.

 

He knew about lack of pace last season, and didn't virtually nothing about it by signing ageing slow players.

Left hand side of midfield became an absolute joke and he literally gave up on it and ignored it leaving us totally unbalanced.

 

I don’t buy this. Everyone said the same for Stockport and they were nowhere near Orient. Agree they will both be up there but giving them 1st and 2nd is a bit premature.

He's been in charge at his club as long as Paul Simpson has been in charge at Carlisle. Both joined in February 2022. Over the two playoff games he has been out thought and outmanaged despite Carlisle having an apparent low budget. It's hard at the moment to forgive him for this, he simply did not turn up for the big game. Something you couldn't accuse Parky of doing. Next season is fully on him, it will be his squad and his backroom staff. The goodwill might be wearing thin if we aren't fighting for the autos.

 

Chapman he didn't trust there till there was literally no one else. How long was Chapman out of the team if hughes thought he was a key player. Also hughes signed numerous players to supposedly play there.

 

I'm still shaking my head in disbelief at that decision to take off Banks after he'd just torn their defence a new one and set up a goal.
Mind blowing.

 

I'm not sure he anticipated Periara being so poor or Wright leaving. Or even Chapman getting injured as he hit form. But you are right, he didn't fix and persisted with three very slow midfielders when East showed promise.

I am not forgiving him. Having got ourselves into these playoffs I thought no one not even Hughes would try and play negative football, but he did with inevitable consequences. If he carry’s on the same way he will not last the season in my view. He has to show the fans lessons have been learnt.
