    Exactly this
We could sign Haaland and he still wouldn't score goals for us the way we are set up at the moment
Give Cook an accomplice and more importantly some service and he will score
With Cook on the pitch scoring isn't our biggest problem
Our best in L2 midfield trio are

Foulds has backed his own ability by making the move elsewhere. Would have been sat on the bench for the rest of the season watching Bola get game time.

I believe his actual comment was he thought Oliver was doing fine, we'll stick Cook on along side Oliver we had nothing to lose

Bit of both Dave, as per YP
Hughes added: “I thought Vadaine (Oliver) and Abo were doing well enough as a pair and deserved to stay on. When you bring Cooky on and leave Vadaine on, you have to change the whole team round. I had to take Abo away from the frontline.

“Sometimes going with two big guys at the front doesn’t always have the effect you want.”

My point was - if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it.
If it is broke - try to fix it and if it doesn’t work, at least you tried.
Hughes instinct was to stick with things which at that point lead to us losing the game and thought that was a better option than trying something different

    Songo- Stubbs
    Wright-Nevers
    Sutton-Clayton
    Foulds- Bola
    Angol-Derbyshire
    Young- Costelloe
    Kelleher-Kelly
Are we any weaker. it could be the players we have brought in are better than the ones that have gone out.
There are a few question marks ,Costelloe and Bola for me, but they need time to settle in and 1 game is not enough to judge anyone on.

Apart from losing Wright, not bothered about losing the others, remains to be seen whether the replacements will improve us.

At least we weren't scrambling around at the last minute replacing Lewis and Cook

T&A saying that there's a possibility of an 8th transfer being signed off. Clickbait probably. Reading the article, it sounds as if it's NOT the Championship player (Wyke). Any ideas who it was?

Training usually starts around now, my guess is if this new guy signed they'll be shooting bits of him training and announce it this aft? If nothing is out by 3/4ish I'd imagine it didn't get completed.

Its not, but its not something that jumps off the page and screams stronger either.

Nevers - doesnt appear to have hit great heights at Newport
Clayton - Looked good at stockport, was out of favour for reasons unknown at Donny
Bola - Awful at stockport, barely played all season due to injury
Costelloe - Has looked lost so far, not sure on his role, barely played all season due to injury
Stubbs - Thought to be good defender, fair enough, barely played all season due to injury
Derbyshire - last seen playing for bengal brasserie. 36 year old. Lacks height or Speed, both attributes at this level
Kelly - Fifth choice centre half, swapped for fifth choice centre half

The jury is out, and whilst its not mirrored the frantic nature of the last few windows with people being bedded in over the month, its still a very odd window.

We havent seemingly strenghened, we havent balanced the books (or have we), we havent trimmed the squad. Im not entirely sure, what the methodoligy and thinking behind it was

Stubbs will be an upgrade on Songo’o IF he stays fit.
Clayton should be an upgrade on Sutton and Derbyshire I don't think will be any worse than Angol.
Nevers, Bola and Costelloe it remains to be seen if they are upgrades or at least as good as the players they are replacing.
Kelly it is far too early to say.
So 4 unknowns at this stage for me and 3 possible/probable upgrades. I'm not sure that makes us stronger coming out of the window than going into it or not.

I would say that Clayton, Stubbs and Derbyshire are improvements on the players they have replaced. Costolloe over young possibly. Don't know enough about Kelly , Bola, and Nevers, who has replaced Wright, which is a loss, but beyond our control.

One thing though, City keeping in touch with Wyke and try and sign him in the summer when Cook gets a new contract from a new club.
Cannot fathom keeping Oliver and Cook and Wyke.

Huge gamble after Wyke's health scare and its not as if City love to collect sicknotes currently.

The frustrating bit was Henderson scored Rochdale's second in the 70th minute he had 20 minutes to get players on to change the game yet nothing changed until the 83 minute when he brought Cook on then in the 90 minute to introduce both Pereira and Nevers on.

I'm sure you will remember the game against Barnsley when we had 4 out and out strikers on the pitch for the last 10 minutes or so of the game, just going for it with nothing to lose, that is my worry with regards Hughes far too cautious with regards making calls to try and turn a game around.
Here put a smile on your face mate.

Parker reporting that it's in the hands of the EFL now as to whether the deal gets the go ahead or not. I know there has to be a cut off point but surely if everything is as good as done by 11pm but just not quite over the line, it has to be like Mastermind doesn't it?

That's my concern too we are now passed the halfway mark games wise if we are to establish a play off place IMO we can't be bedding players in as has been said players brought to the club in January should be capable of hitting the ground running, as yet seen little of Derbyshire, Costelloe two games average, Clayton looked the part, but as I said mate we can't afford to be getting players fit for games we need to make sure we've nailed a play off position no excuses.

Would Wigan would want a fee for Charlie, he signed on a 3 year deal in July 2021.

What worries me is that it isn't just the new signings we are trying to bed in, we've also got Walker just back from long term injury, Osedebe hopefully not too far away and Ridehalgh if he is to feature. Then on top of that, it hasn't helped that the last couple of months have been incredibly stop, start, stop, preventing us from being able to really build some consistency and get on a good run.
I think it's going to be a really big ask to expect everything to come together over the next few games, so I'm not getti g my hopes up too much at this stage. Hope I'm proved massively wrong though.

I agree to a certain extent Dave, i am not certain how much actual game time these new players will get, add in Walker, Banks, Chapman, Riddeaugh and Osadibe when fully fit. we actually have a great squad on paper, if only football was played on it.
