The biggest surprise, is that given the current state of the economy, that they are looking at ‘levelling up’ anywhere. If they have all this ‘spare’ money then there seems to be other areas of the economy where the budget could be used.

Levelling up has quietly been ditched as Gov policy I was reading two days ago. Tory MP ‘s are banned from using it, bit like the Brexit word?

As a big rugby league fan i've had some great times at Odsal. But i'm realistic to understand those times will never come back. The only justification to have a stadium at Odsal would be a shared ownership and in reality none of the sports involved puts enough on the table to warrant a new development. Without Bradford being guaranteed super league there is no long term tenant to pay the bills. As Rod alludes to, fill the bloody thing in and have done with it. Odsal to me mirrors the city of Bradford, dying on its arse and run into the ground by idiots. And as such we should stop wasting tax payers on pie in the sky pipedreams. Same with the stupid City of culture bollocks, stop giving these people an excuse to waste your money.

Nope, unless plenty is spent on the pitch to cater for both codes. Oh and their rent is £500,000 a months .;). Providing we can sub let?

The shame is , its the same idiots that are returned to office year after year, with the same stupid ideas.
Unfortunately, nothing will change with these guys in charge and turkeys don't vote for Christmas.
Odsal has been a complete shit hole for most of its existence. I went for one of the summer music bashes last year. WOW
Thank god the tickets were complimentaries. You would have to pay me well to attend otherwise.

Successful big money bids are below. to be fair most the huge bids are split between north and south but mainly all to do in some for with green transport or improving public transport. Bradford councils bid was for the £50M, not a chance that was ever going to happen. Wrexhams owners also bid for the levelling up money to redevelop the racecourse, but that was rejected.

Cardiff Council, £50 million for Crossrail Cardiff. This will help deliver a new line between Cardiff Bay and Cardiff Central Station

Lancaster City Council, £50 million to transform Morecambe’s seafront into what they call an "Eden by the Bay".

Cornwall Council got £49,995,000. Nearly £50 million to create a direct train service linking Newquay, St Austell, Truro, and Falmouth alongside better walking and cycling access to stations.

Lancashire County Council, £49,602,741. Almost £50m for three projects to greener, safer public transport.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, £47,850,000. Nearly £48 million to build a new entrance and footbridge for Peterborough train station.

Kent County Council, £45,000,000 for Dover to improve the flow of traffic from the UK to the EU, with more border control points and a new exit route to help the port operate more efficiently and reduce congestion on local roads.

Greater London Authority, £43,166,006. £43 million to make Leyton and Colindale Underground stations step-free in East London.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority, £41,248,832 . An investment of over £41 million for West Yorkshire will deliver improvements to bus services in the region. Improvements include safer and more accessible bus stops and bus stations.

Blackpool Borough Council,£40,000,000. A new carbon neutral university campus in Blackpool, with a £40 million investment.

Majority of the £20M and under bids were down south. Sports related ones, Sandwell council & Rushmoor council got £20M each to build sports leisure centres. Gateshead got £20M to build a new indoor arena with some hotels and bars in the development too.

You know what… a lot of these transport “ projects” are replacements for Beeching’s decimation of the railways in the 60’s on behalf of the road lobby. Many said it was short sighted and there you go!

Good. It was and always has been pie in the Sky. Lets get on and fill it in and release the millions that landfill will generate for better use. As for City of Culture, it's like the Royal family. It may cost money to put on (most of which will be private sector rather than council anyway) but the rewards far outweigh the cost.

The Royal family costs £86million. Small change compared to the number of overseas visitors having a Royal family attracts to the UK.

Have you seen the state of this statement from the Bulls.

Basically we are disappointed we didn't get this handout so we are looking towards the council for information about any potential future handouts.

    No shame.

This is pretty pathetic stuff. They should have been called the Bradford Oliver’s…always got the begging bowl out.

Once they tried to compete with the heavily backed clubs , Northern were wholly reliant on borrowed money or tax payer hand outs it was doomed to failure.

Apart from a few ageing Australian Rugby League fans, who outside of a very small number of Rugby league fans in the UK have ever heard of/visited the so called ‘world famous Odsal Stadium!

Really if they honestly think Odsal is ‘World famous’, then it shows a pretentious, deluded, introspective group who live in a Fairy Tale land. More chance of seeing the ‘World Famous’ Cottingley fairies!

What's even more laughable is that Richard Dunn's has been made a listed building, as I drove past the other day it has trees growing near the structure, with money being as tight as it is I'm sure Bradford Council could find better ways of spending our council taxes which idiots made it a listed building, back in the day it was certainly a futuristic building not sure that will apply in 5 years time, just another derelict un-care for building.

As you say make it land fill to bring some revenue in.

The council didn't want it listing. In fact they've objected to it. Think it was English Heritage who got it listed.

It can be no surprise that the council wanted to waste 50 million on Odsall. The laste time they were given 30 Million they spent it on a City centre pool that is mainley under repair or used by druggies
