It's irrelevant. The money is guaranteed as we'd be a football creditor.

We need to buy 2 stickers now if Charlie gets sold or not.
    Unless he actually signs.
If we plan on getting rid of him in jan it will put us in the same situation as last season and could feck us over again.

All of the fees we have paid and recieved so far have been relatively small, so the method of payment becomes considerably less significant. However, paying fees of £1M + is a different ball game altogether and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the adopted method was to adjust when you take certain factors into consideration, which wouldn't have otherwise existed when paying a smaller transfer fee. For example, club A want to get rid of a particular player, club B will take him but can only afford to do it over a longer period of time thus an agreement to pay the fee over the length of the players contract is agreed. Or in this case, Sunderland are in urgent need of a striker but we are aware that a replacement isn't going to come cheap, so an upfront payment is made so both teams get their wish.

    Etc etc.

We can all come up with our theories but none of us really know. Is it common for a fee to be paid upfront, does it get paid over the entire length of a contract or perhaps there's a middle ground where fees are paid over the space of a year/a year and a half. Whichever one you believe in It's all conjecture as there's no strong evidence either way. At a guess, I think it will vary from transfer to transfer but back to Charlie Wyke, we shouldn't sell him unless Sunderland (or another club) provide us with enough resources up front to find an adequate repalcement. The biggest concern at the moment is the time issue. I can see a similar scenario to the farce we saw in Janaury where we are scrambling around for a replacement at the last minute, so hopefully his future is resolved quickly.

Given some of the factoids/urban myths posted on here, I've sent an email with a few questions to an ex-colleague, who amongst other things is an expert on the financial issues involved in football transfers. Hopefully he will be able to put some of these myths to bed. He works for one of the Big 4 who just happen to produce what is widely regarded in footballing as the best review and analysis of the financial aspects of football across Europe. (That's the end of the sales pitch for them!) Hopefully I'll get his response within the next 24 hours and will post it on here.

If they go totally bust and drop out of the league then we would lose out on any unpaid money, but that is the only way. Football debts have to be paid in full. If they default then payments from TV etc are used in first instance.

    No, just 2.

2 quality forwards not loans or pub players.

This is not quite true, Whilst the football league have this stipulation in their rules the law of the land over rules these regulations, When Bates was at Leeds he refused to pay the football debts and lumped them with all the other debts for the receiver to deal with, The football league could not stop it and instead issued a 12 point deduction the following season as a penalty ( My memory says 12 but may have been more )

Get all the money upfront, forcing them to go bust, then take Charlie back paying the administrators 1p in the £1. Win Win

Sunderland now in for Devante Cole. Wonder if this is to play with Wyke or they are moving on?

They seem adamant he is out for 6 weeks too Wyke. No idea where that’s come from
