Yeah of course but you were suggesting Kelleher and Threlkeld were involved in the numbers but they won't have been in the initial named squad and even if they came back wouldn't, imo, be named in the squad for February onwards.

Fair point, but it seems a ‘luxury’ to have players, who will continue to draw a salary, yet they can’t be involved in the team or even the squad. I guess Kelleher will be a low wage earner, but Threlkeld, despite his performances with City, will be on a decent salary. When Adams was here, Threlkeld came to the club as the first choice right back. Threlkeld’s loan ends in January and he will return to City unless he gets a transfer.

I think that would be a reasonable solution if we can’t move him on.

This January window is how it should always be. Get your summer recruitment right and supplement in January. In the past it’s been a mini overhaul of the squad. It can be no surprise to anyone that we’ve finished mid table when you try to bed a number of players twice a season.

For me one dominant ball carrying midfielder and a striker able to create for themselves.

I think left back is our weakest position.

Not to dismiss Foulds, but he's not my cup of tea. Doesn't get forward enough and doesn't look quite as good as the others.

I think Foulds is a weaker player than Gilliead, but I'd happily see us bring in a quality LB and CDM.

Never thought Ridehalgh was going to be good enough either. Bog standard League 2 player.

What happened under Adams is irrelevant and so is the wage he'll be earning. Threlkeld has only managed a handful of games for a struggling National league side and there's no way MH will bring him back into the squad just to appease Rupp. If we really can't shift him then come February I'd imagine we'd look to come to an agreement over the remainder of his contract so that he can try and find employment elsewhere.

I think Foulds is playing his best football at the moment. He's tall, athletic and calm on the ball. He's also doing better with the attacking phase of his game and has as many assists this season as a certain midfielder has since he returned to the club.

Can we do better? Probably, but unless we move Ridehalgh out and the right option is freely available then I don't think it's the biggest problem area at present.

I'd agree with that. One of the best defences in the league is the last place we need to look to upset. Foulds continues to impress and rarely let's the team down. Is he good enough to step up a level, not sure, but certainly proven to be good enough for league 2.

His only weakness for me is his readiness to play the ball backwards to RC even when on the halfway line whilst rarely trying to run past a defender. Harsh but I think he’s come on leaps and bounds and Ridehalgh hasn’t a chance over him even if fit. Even when playing Ridehalgh has been half the player he was last season. So yes he’s far and away the better of the two for me.

I wonder if that’s because of the way the team is instructed to play. When he does decide to go forward, the majority of the time he gets the ball in the box and is possibly one of the best crossers of the ball in the squad.

The issue with that is if a full back is losing a ball on the halfway line we're definitely in danger of being counter attacked.

If he's 30 yards from goal then I probably agree that he could maybe look to take a man on, if its the right option, but as deep as the halfway line then I'm happy with safety first from our full backs.

I get that Dave , no issues, but if there are one or even two opposing forwards “ pressing “ our back two then calamity is a real potential. There is a time and a place. Probably one of the reasons why some home fans get the jitters when we pass it amongst the back line.

Bang on. I expect we will try offload him and if we cant will pay his contract up on deadline day so he can sign elsewhere. Fact is he is nowhere near good enough to even warm the bench, we would play Doyle at RB before him.

I'd agree more strongly if we weren't questioning the DCM's so openly.

Gilliead is a better player, for me, than Foulds, and part of the defensive six that has been so resolute.

I'm not sure replacing Foulds would be any more risky than replacing Gilliead, TBH, just because he's technically part of the back line.

They're either both replaceable, or neither are - just my thoughts on that one.

As far as I'm aware, this is his first knee injury?. He broke his leg 3 years ago, so you are being incredibly harsh saying he has a serial knee problem issue
