Speedway not mentioned. A covered track would attract big meetings.
they manage at Cardiff. Seems odd a stock car promoter piles a load of cash in bringing the track up to world class standard for it to not be included in a multi use stadium.

I believe land fill has to stand a certain about of years before any structural work is done on the site, When I worked at GEC on Dick Lane 35 years ago there was a massive land fill next to the foundry it was leveled off and grassed over at one time there were football pitches on it but no buildings.

Speedway really is a none starter with Football/Rugby. The minimum Speedway track length is 260 metres. http://www.speedway-faq.org/mainrule.html
The maximum Football Pitch length is 120 metres. So a Football pitch would be lost inside a Speedway Oval.
Apparently a Rugby League pitch maximum is 122 metres by 68 metres.
So if a speedway track was to be built, then the distance of spectators for Rugby and Football, from the actual pitch would be immense.
A 400 metre Running track is a minimum of 177 metres in length as a comparison.
    https://www.dimensions.com/element/track-and-field-400m-running-track

City’s pitch at Valley Parade is 103 metres long by 64 metres wide.

Wembley is 106 metres long by 69 metres wide.

Port Vale one of the larger pitches is 104 metres by 70.5 metres wide.

Speedway in a Rugby/Football stadium will not work.

What sort of crowds do they get at speedway?

Could Bulls ever move out and Speedway sustain it purely as their own venue?

No. The newest stadium purely for speedway is the Belle Vue track in Manchester. Part of an £11 million development a few years ago, the stadium itself cost £8 million. A redeveloped Odsal would cost many times more and with potentially only one decent sized crowd if a grand prix was held there. Even rugby on top will not sustain a development that size.

I thought speedway at Northern had ceased years ago when the “Northern” speedway franchise was sold.?

Cant be a regular thing at Cardiff surely, as they have to remove a good deal of the pitch and relay the track everytime its used used. [IMG]

Speedway could and should be a feature at Odsal now. The only thing stopping it is a promoter willing to run it.
The arse effectively fell out of speedway when the Sky money stopped. It propped up speedway. A new reality is running the sport sustainably finance wise.
Stock car racing has had to do this since day 1.
What I find galling is that a stock car promoter piles loads of money into reopening the place, the Bulls return and all of a sudden Bfd Council want to kick stock car racing out again!!
In terms of football lets not go there. The place was a pain in the arse to get to back in the 80's. Coming from Skipton involved a train, a walk across town and then a bus up there. I think it would put a lot of folk off going who come from the Aire and Wharfe valley catchment.
Since returning for stock cars the parking situation has got a lot worse too. There's some in the grounds of Ricky Dunns but that soon gets filled up. A strict no on using the adjacent housing estate as the locals have kicked off about it. It's pot luck on finding somewhere 'safe' to.park now.

They do the same at Copenhagens football stadium. That's got a full roof as well, they just convert the pitch surface to a shale track. But then this and the principality stadium are first class facilities where pitch conversion is part of the stadiums set up.

You are correct. Subsidence, escaping gases, landslip etc. However, not withstanding the wait to re-use, in the meantime it could take a massive amount of our City's rubbish so would at least finally be put to good use.

Yes I agree but no matter how many millions it brought in it would be swallowed up with little to show for it.
