It’s not the easiest to get to that end of town from Wakefield Road, Manchester Road and Canal Road. Worse than VP in fact

I'm not sure the council would give serious thought to either of your proposals, we got little help from the council when we wanted to make the Kop bigger under Richmond offering far more than the market price for the few houses on Midland Road just behind the kop, https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/8060432.richmonds-warning/, "An angry Mr Richmond has demanded an apology from Councillor Syd Collard, chairman of Bradford Area Planning Sub-Committee, who said he would have voted against the club's plans had he known the size of the new Kop stand and claimed the Council had been misled".

Perhaps he was a Rugby League supporter who couldn’t bear the thought of City having an up to date stadium in the late 1990’s!
‘But his main wish before he steps down in May is to see the application for the £60 million Odsal Stadium redevelopment approved by Government Minister Stephen Byers.’. https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/8033500.syd-85-reaches-last-item-on-his-agenda/

No wonder that Bradford Council could be construed as having a distorted view (some could say biased) in favour of Rugby League. https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/19005083.bradford-mp-rugby-league-role-offers-lockdown-praise/

What amenities do you refer to as lacking Kev?

Low Moor station, via a change at Interchange, is little further than Forster Square is to Valley Parade (both awkward walks up hill).

Both are served by bus routes better anyway.

Odsal much better away access for away fans unless they are coming from Skipton/Burnley. Stockport, Oldham, Rochdale, all easier from M62/M606, as will all the Southern clubs coming up M1.

The richard dunn site would offer parking options - albeit the building can’t be demolished.

Maccis, Subway (Low Moor Garage) and KFC all near Odsal top roundabout / Rooley - just as we’ve a Maccis at Forster Square.

There are more local amenities around Wibsey and within a 1m radius than there are around VP and more pubs too. Around City what we got? Apart from North Parade, closest pubs are the one on Manningham Lane and then Cartwright hotel?

For Bulls there’s obviously Q Gardens closest, the one on the roundabout, a few on Manchester Road - Woodman is it? Dropkick along Halifax Road and even the Chapel House is close as you just cut through the cricket pitch.

None of those pubs are anything special but they’d serve the sporting clientele.

For the gamblers there are no bookies near City now Hills has shut. In Wibsey we’ve Betfred close to ground.

I understand why fans have unhappy memories of Odsal after the fire, though I’d say Odsal amenities outscore VP, whose main plus is a Tesco express on Manningham Lane.

I know a lot are reluctant to move the ground to Bradford South, but for me its ‘tough luck’. If you stay where we are it inconveniences some more than others etc.

if the club truly believe the rent is crippling us, then I think an Odsal ground share must be considered. However, I think they are more likely just calling Gibbs bluff to try engineer a way of getting out of another 25-year lease myself. We’ve heard all the fluster before so many times the club are trying to use it as a bargaining chip.

The Rugby Union club W.A.S.P appear to be in trouble approaching administration the C.B.S Arena hosts soccer,Union other sporting activities, casino, hotel and concerts. I have journeyed down with the Corn Dolly and Cougars . The concourse as an excellent selection of bars including real ale . If there’s problems in the midlands and other areas Worcester Rugby Union are also in trouble.Bradford Council need to back a way from Odsal and concentrate on improving run down areas. Valley Parade is our home we have pride and great support . For a start the Council should improve street cleaning and City Centre tidying so sort it Hinchcliffe it’s a dump.

Looking forward to Saturdays game “Just Move on Up “

Im not going into the local amenities thing other than to say it cannot in any shape or form, as it stands, compete with what a 15 min walk to VP from the City Centre can offer and that includes the Town Centre/ , We can’t say that about Odsal, especially when we are talking circa20k crowds?. The choice is endless as it stands, so no comparison needed.

In terms of “ getting there” except if your travelling from the south or away fans. ( I couldn’t give a turnip if it meant making it easier for away) alienates a large number of our fan base from the East, North or partial West of Bradford. The Bradford Ring Road is an absolute joke, it was 30 years ago. Imagine it today with big match day attendances.
Odsal served by buses, where do these buses come from? Knowing how mass transit systems operate , franchises only rent ( not buy) sufficient vehicles for their normal everyday services Mon to Sunday. They won’t rent extra vehicles to be used once a fortnight especially in the large numbers required.
A new stadium by all means , ground share by all means but not Odsal, it’s a horrible place to get to for Bradfordians in large numbers in 2022 unless we want to help away fans have a seamless trip to a ground. Maximise revenue using Odsal as a waste disposal cash cow, build a new stadium elsewhere which will in the long term be funded by waste disposal fees.
@Rogered Tart@Rogered Tart has it spot on with his post yesterday.. It won’t happen, been there seen these schemes over nigh on 50 years and round and round we go and it’s still a dilapidated hole in the ground . The only thing it swallows is CASH.

Who cares how easy the access would be for away supporters visiting the stadium once a year? What about those who visit it 25 times a year.

It really isnt as inaccessible as you are making out. I’ve lived in Oakenshaw/Low Moor & Wyke for about 10 years and all the ‘problem’ travelling you mention is exactly what I’ve done to get to VP.….in the reverse route. Once through centre traffic, 10 minutes up Manchester Road and you are there.

It really isn’t an issue. Maybe if you are getting trains up, it messes up your plans, but there are plenty of us this side of the City and in Halifax, Brighouse, Wibsey, Queensbury, Clayton, Shelf, Bierley, Cleckheaton etc who wouldn’t be travelling as far to Odsal as VP so it’s swings and roundabouts for those in Eccleshill, Idle, Thackley, Shipley, Baildon, App Bridge etc.

Bradford town centre is an utter dump - I wouldn’t be using that as a selling point for the commute from train to ground. Someone was stabbed in town again only the other week.

I went in a few Sundays ago to take the kids to the cinema near Broadway and town (not cinema) was full of smackheads and rats as ever. A hideous place. Pound shops and little else - absolutely no reason to visit. Hopefully that changes when the music venue at Odeon site opens.

The bus services and routes that served Bulls fans in their pomp would serve our fanbase. 20k and above used to have no issue.

Truth is, most fans drive to matches anyway.

    Agree totally.
Lived 2 streets away from the Craven Heifer on Manchester road for 30 years before I moved to Bailiff Bridge so I’ve travelled to VP from the Odsal side all my life.
I just don’t get the Odsal is very difficult to get to argument.
Why is it any different to get to Odsal for others than it is for me to get to VP from that side of the city.

I’ve watched everything at Odsal for the last 50 years and I agree it’s a complete sh!thole that should have been filled many years ago but I think the fact that the Bulls had a few years when they were regularly getting 15k every other week(admittedly 20 years ago)without the whole of that area coming to a complete standstill shows that the access issue is a bit of a red herring.

I hope we stay at VP as it will always have its history but if we were to move im sure people would accept it and just make different travel arrangements.

Bradford is an awful city to have a ground as the transport links are a mess, you'll always piss off half the post codes as it's not as accessible by train. If you do find a central spot, it's near on impossible for the amount of land needed thats remotely flat in this day n age. But there's no reason to be in Bradford on a weekend which is something the council need to pay more attention to than a new ground. Going for a drink or finding a nice place to eat on an evening is impossible. The wife and her mum pop to the Alhambra to watch a musical a few times a year and try make a night of it, but getting some food before hand within a decent walk to the place is impossible unless you want a curry.

The travel 'issue' isn't even an issue. The same points about people having a longer public transport journey exists now for everyone who lives below the interchange who travel by PT, it just doesn't get brought up as people are used to it. As you say, most people drive these days anyway.

Realistically, any potential new ground has to be outside the city centre. There are another 45 grounds in the PL & EFL of over 20,000 capacity. Theres Newcastle, Cardiff and Wolves that can be classed as central grounds, Sheff Utd is borderline but why not add to the pile. I dont look at any of those clubs and think there crowds are down due to location.

I think everyone is probably 95% sure that we are just going to sign on a new lease at VP, everyone is just clutching at straws that the terms will be more favourable.

To give some balance I drove from Brighouse last Saturday for the game, it took me 20 minutes from there to being parked up in Broadway which cost £2 quid. I don't think either Odsal or VP are particularly hard to get to and from, certainly nowhere near as bad as some away grounds.

We either parked in Wibsey or Dunns car parks for the bulls. Police blocked the roundabout off and we were away no problem. Used to love those summer days up there for the rugby, decent drinking establishments around and you didn't have to go through the shithole that is Manningham

Its something to factor in when the site would be used on non matchdays for things like a music venue. It is external investment for such things that would ultimately fund half this project, so its a bit naive to look only at home fans, whose occupancy of the premises is only every other week and, even then, only for a few hours.

Its how we fill/use the stadium the other times that determines if Odsal plans are ever a goer (im skeptical fwiw). The away attendances per se on a matchday mean nothing, esp at our level, in the grand scheme of these plans.
