York today

Oh yes "the honeymoon is over for the players and games so far a chance to assess which players are up for the challenge". Looks like we will be starting the season with a team of 2 or 3, you better look out Shrewsbury!

 

just looked at the side and we had 8 what you could call ‘matchday’ squad members who could easily start first game of season in 3 weeks missing.

some of those in the squad today won’t be anywhere near first team next year - and today has probably shown that to the coaching staff. they had to see what they have at their disposal incase the younger lads are needed, now they know they’re probably not good enough for the step up.

 

Did their keeper have more than one shot to save? I don't remember anything else.

I thought 2 players looked better than York's lot - Kilgallon and Seerdorf. Hudson and Wright had moments. Hope did not look fit and was not on his own.

Nobody else stood out against a team 3 divisions below us, although they seem to be making progress under Gray, who is considered to be a promising young manager. York should again have a bigger budget than most in their division. They looked well organised and closed down well in their own half but many in the Bantams' squad were lacking. There was hardly any running off the ball and when there was it didn't get fed. It asks questions about the quality of new players we are looking at or fitness or both. It might be worth pointing out that most of York's lot have probably had two games in the heat while most of ours have had 45 minutes so the weather might have helped them a little. We actually edged it for the first 35 minutes and the last 5 but carried little goal threat during that and none in between.

Many players were missing and some out there were not fit but a few need dumping on this showing. It's disappointing but it's an early friendly. They'll get fitter and some new players will probably come into the mix so it's not a disaster. It's just a filtering process. All the same, I'd feel much better if we'd seen a few better newcomers and cruised to a 2-0 victory.

Just to rub it in, the turnout was slightly disappointing for both teams, too - about 450 Bradford fans in an 800 crowd.

 

Friendlies results dont mean much.
But togetherness,formation/systems etc,seeing a couple of leaders emerge erc etc.two games in two lack lustre performances with 2 or 3 differant set ups im sorry but the writings starting to be firmly on that wall....

 

To be fair the goalkeeper, the two centre backs, Chicksen, Akpan, and Wright would probably be first team starters. The rest made up of young lads and trialists. Still got others to come back such as MacGowan and Reeves but we look lightweight like we did last season. I'm not getting carried away yet, its only pre season, but we need to see signs of a team gelling and a preferred formation emerging soon. A lot of new players in the squad and a lot of unproven ones, it could take well into the season before we see a settled team.

 

It is a disaster because under Grayson we could hardly create anything and that is clearly still the case now.

Our main forward is set to leave and he can't hit a barn door.

Edin needs to understand buying shi&e will only take us backwards. Bradford City urgently need quality players now. Players that can make a difference.

Only something like 3 weeks until the season starts and for most City fans we couldn't be heading into a season with so much disappointment and that disappointment is going to continue when Wkye is sold.

 

In fairness, if we beat Sheffield United on Tuesday, things will be much better agsin. It's a certainty, well not the result btw..

 

I dont give a flying feck about friendlies and they certainly don't cement my opinion of the management team. As i have said before I will form my opinion after 5 league games.

 

I reckon come 2.59 on aug 4th this will see us in the highest position in the league for this coming season purely because of alphabetical order..........
After that...................well f. knows....but i'm dreading it, I really am....

 

Its Wyke by the way. So a forward who cant hit a barn door is attracting serious interest from other clubs.
You and the other neg heads are always disappointed about something or other.

We haven't started the league campaign yet so why worry about the team when its still to be finalised.

As someone who has seen the team first hand I have attached part of what I posted yesterday before the York game and would be interested to know if you have any positives at all from today? As you will see I mentioned some of the things you did as I am really concerned about what is happening at our club but Park told me everything will be ok

" MC says if we get the players in they are looking for then he is confident we will do ok - but it begs the question what happens if we dont get them in? The answer probably doesn't bare thinking about right now as there is already still so much that seems up in the air at the club. As for tomorrow I am not too bothered by the result but we need to start to see a pattern of play forming, signs of leadership both on and off the pitch and indications we can create and hopefully take chances. But if Charlie leaves I honestly think we hardly have a goal in us at the club!"
