In previous seasons with different managers, that sounds like exactly the sort of excuse we'd get given as to why we couldn't do any more business. Not now though, there's a level of professionalism and planning gone into this window that we aren't used to, and from the start, it's been said there will be outgoings. Just as there is a plan behind who is coming in, there will be one around who is going out. It's going to happen Park, whether you believe it or not.

Clearly we've found some extra money down the back of the sofa. That always makes life easier when trading players.
If we give Threlkeld a higher % to clear off, then he is more likely to do so.
The haggling usually gets sorted at the end of the transfer window.

I agree certainly that he would benefit massively under the wing of Smallwood. His Hollywood passes would be turned into something akin to Ealing Broadway , much shorter, much more effective and undoubtedly more ACCURATE. I suggest he should look again at his offer, along with the club and revamp the deal into something I said a few days ago, with a release clause which gives Watt the best of both worlds…….Let’s see but it would seriously benefit Watt!

If he stays I'd say the 442 becomes an option given the relative quality of the two. Don't think its Hughes' preferred set up but could allow Cook and Angol to start together, they looked pretty good when starting together last season.

He tended to go 442 when looking for a late winner or to get level didn’t he otherwise 4231?

Perhaps his formation was down to the players available to him ?

Good question. Although assume he isn’t obliged to be there since not in contract with the club anymore therefore if he wasn’t, safe to say an announcement is pending.

He’s the only one of him, Vernam and POC I wanted to say. However on paper Smallwood is a significant upgrade so business well done by the club.

He is still contracted until 30th june. So if he is staying , he should be at training.
His absence tells me all i need to know. The issue is probably the amount of compensation we get from the club he is joining.

No idea how the tribunal works but if Mark Stewart cost us 250k (presume length of service influenced that fee though?), fingers crossed Watt returns a notable amount.

It could be, I am not sure i would run the risk from either sides point of view. Wolves also get a good slice of any money we receive, not that they need it

Stewart's fee wasn't established by tribunal. It was an 'international' transfer between 2 different FAs and as such determined by a formula designed by FIFA and used by every footballing authority in these cases. Yes, it is largely calculated from how long the player had been developed at his old club with additional payments based on future appearances and sell-ons.

It's not a perfect system by any standard but at least it gives both clubs some certainty on how much would be due if a fee couldn't be agreed beforehand. The current tribunal system for U24s could never do that.

Edit: This is a good summary. The real life examples are worthy of a read ..

If true very good move for him and I wish him well. Hopefully their RB will come the over way and everyone’s a winner.

You think? Only been to Portsmouth the once and it looked a pretty grotty place for a 24 year old to set up roots, and I know Bradford ain’t no great shakes but there’s a lot of vibrant places nearby

I think Watt lives somewhere in or around Preston, has a young son and seems very family orientated. I could be wrong but I don't see him and his partner upping sticks and moving that far away from family and friends.
