Free accommodation according to your job and needs, free heating, power and water, free public transport, Must have been sh*t living in the old Russia Of course you never had a say in who run the place but then neither do we to an extent,
Mind you 5 year wait for a car and all the shoes produced were size 8 and Left shoes only :)

The world makes a lot more sense when you replace 'good vs evil' with 'looking out for our interests'

Just to mention that while the world focuses on the war in the Ukraine there is a risk of war breaking out again in Bosnia

If you'd had occasion to visit any former soviet countries, many of them are actually worse now they're 'free', due to rampant corruption amongst other issues.

Do we not? We arguably live in the most fair and free society that has ever existed. No time and place in history has had less flaws.

Not perfection by any means and their are some parallels with how the Russian people live but let's not downplay where we are.

The sinking of that battle ship by a country who has no notable navy and where Russia have air dominance is one of the most embarrassing wartime failures I've ever come across. How the hell can that happen with modern equipment?

The Americans are giving the Ukraine $800m of military hardware not sure Putin made plans for that sort of scenario, as you say thd flagship of the Russian Fleet sunk.

I think I heard that warship is actually 40 years old. So much of the Russian hardware seems substandard........but they still have their nuclear weapons, which might also be old and unreliable but still threaten devastation.

Not sure the Ukraine claims are true as they claim a lot that is never substantiated like Phospher bombs and chemical bombs, The ship was 40 years old with little fire protection and the 500 crew were evacuated with no fatalities, Had it been hit by two modern missiles it would have caused mass casualties for sure and sunk immediately,

you may be right but the crew of the ship was 480 and a Turkish ship has reported taking 54 sailors from it before the other Russian ships attended to take off others,

There is no doubt that Russia has been given a bloody nose by Ukraine, The have prosecuted a war based on 1945 tactics of sending in the tanks instead of the modern way of taking out all comms, TV, Mobile and internet and then destroying all control and command centres and military airfields BEFORE sending in the tanks and troops, They will have sustained huge loses before having to withdraw to regroup, They seem to be stuck in a time warp and not studied or learnt from previous mistakes. Modern warfare is led by technology not brute force

In some ways, maybe. Probably highly debatable although this isn't the right thread obviously.

    Overall? There's no comparison.

So you’re told by state media who not only have a strong anti-Russian narrative but hypocritically also censor Russia.

It's baffling because they've spent a lot of money modernising their military (or supposedly so), yet they're trying to use extremely outdated tactics.
