That’s the problem. We have a limited budget and can’t afford to take risks on players with a history of injuries, particularly when it’s a key position and the back up is poor. We need to be efficient when spending the budget and make sure we get value for money.

 

Quite a lot of established managers let their assistants talk at half time. Usually assistant managers are more vocal, passionate and “in your face” than the more pragmatic manager. I can’t see Trueman filling this role. I don’t think he’s got the respect of the players, and looks a bit of a shrinking violet type. Maybe this is part of the problem?

I think he was inferring from the part where the Portsmouth manager said he's going to play 20 games which sort of suggests he will be playing every game but, as you say, it's not stated he is certain to play.

 

I think Adams wouldn’t stand for anyone having a bigger say than him. I agree Trueman appears to be a shrinking violet and doesn’t have the experience to pass on learned knowledge. We’ve suffered in recent times with managers coming in without an experienced assistant. Hopkin, Bowyer and now Adams went alone, maybe it’s to save the salary for the playing budget instead. This is where the CEO should insist on ring fencing the budget to get the best backroom set up possible.

 

Will we see any signings today? I cant see any loans coming in especially as the lad at Luton cant get a game so if anyone does come in then i presume we will have to lodge a couple of bids.

I suspect he’s one who would probably do better playing in a bigger teams under 23s like McBurnie did and have a few loan spells at clubs who will let him play to his strength

I'd love to see us send the invisible man back, sack Adams, replace Sparks with Dave Baldwin, have a takeover complete today and wake up to find Jemma Jameson hovering over me (with a years supply of viagra in her bra) but unfortunately none will happen and even worse, the last one has potentially more chances than the others.

I've strongly considered sacking off this season, but what would I do on a match day, and the three pints I have pre-match are more important than expecting a result.

Interesting. Never knew that. I just thought back to Jewell, Blake and ‘sulking’ and assumed the manager did it everywhere!

 

Not sure it’s always true. I know from watching the Amazon documentaries on Man City spurs and the like the managers at both those clubs did all the talking at half time. Pep and Jose it was at spurs at the time.

But I've read from some other sources, players and autobiographies, that some managers just sit and analyse at half time and let their assistants lay into the players/build them up etc. Sven was one of them...hardly said anything to the England players at half time.

 

Adams was right to be extremely critical, but not in public. Two individual errors cost us three points, irrespective how the team played crap collectively!
